I just don't get it. What will happen if the country as a whole allows gay marriage? Will society crumble? Will heterosexual marriages somehow become inferior? What is it? Enlighten me as to what you're so very, very afraid of.

There are plenty of other countries that allow it and I believe they're doing just fine. Nobody's marrying animals, or kids, and no other marriages are failing because of it. So let's back up the hate with some facts, if you can find any.

I have not become Gay because Vermont allows Gay marriage.

DOMA does not mention having children or family either but that did not prevent you from indulging in a flight of fancy over these subjects...

DOMA requires the government not to recognize marriage unless it is between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN.

I believe government needs to be silent on the matter of marriage. What part of that do you not understand? The federal goverment should no more regulate marriage than they regulate my selling a bicycle on Craig's List. We have plenty of civil laws to enforce contracts. The marriage contract, like any other contract, should be something that both people can cimmit to for a lifetime, not something whipped up by religious fanatics, crackpot social engineers or "tradition". The results will be better, for marriage and for children, when married people can commit to each other and not to some document they did not write, portions of which are dictated by officials I did not vote for.

But if it makes you happy, perhaps you would like to tell me which words I can use when I make statements that DOMA is a piece of TRASH legislation.

It's very odd that the people who are so against big-government are so very, very FOR government deciding which consenting adult I can have sex with or marry, whether or not I can have an abortion, and where I can get my birth control.

I guess as long as government isn't making decisions for THEM, it's all okay.

Really? Any different than the one's that are "pro-choice" being against my choice which school I send my tax dollars to? Any different than pro-choice people wanting to tell me what I can drive, smoke, eat, feed my children? Any different than people that want to raise minimum wage but are against punishing employers for exploiting illegals? Any different than people that say they want government out of their uterus...but want them to provide every other form of medical care, even condoms?

A lot of people are "pro choice" as long as I choose like they do, and a lot of people are "pro life" as long as we live life like they do.

I agree or disagree with people on principals and mine are simple...INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY and INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY to every extent possible, or logical, for any issue, whether I like it or not. I do not like abortion, I do not use marijuana, I am not Gay, I wear seatbelts, but I do not want LAWS to force people to live the way I choose to live. Sometimes Danno agrees with me, and sometimes you agree with me, Evylin. But my principals are always the same. Pro choice on everything and that MEANS some people are going to choose to do things that I do not choose to do myself...and that is OK. LEAVE ME OUT! The main purpose of the government should be to protect individual liberty, DOMA does not do that.
