Why shouldn't we? I do not want my family to live by your "reality". The problems with families you cite tend to be associated with single parent households...where the government has taken the place of a parent. Doesn't work. The government needs to get their nose out of families...it is way too damn important to let the whackos that manage to get elected to congress be in charge of it.

Children do best with two people that love and care for them because, dammit, it IS a two person job! It means a couple where the man is sterile...too bad, no kids for you! Or that their kids will be no good because the sperm came from an anonymous donor? Do you think my children give much thought to where the sperm came from that created them? Or more to the man who supports them and encourages them and fixes things when they need fixing. I have been working on college applications with Pasha lately, as I did very successfully with Sergey (and I give myself credit for anout 1/2 of 1% of that) and in all those hours I NEVER had the thought that either son was the product of someone else's sperm, and I bet my next month's pay neither of them did either. You really do cheapen and discredit the sincere care and love people have for children with such nonsense

Most of the really messed up children in this country are the products of heterosexual marriages/relationships where the parents simply do not make the children number 1. (and I HATE to see that I really do, HATE IT because I love children, even when they are adult children and I would walk through fire for my children)

If homosexual parents are equally uncaring, their kids will be all messed up also. I really do not believe that a child raised by two women or two men that care for and love that child would have any more difficulty than one raised by a loving and caring man and woman.

I am aware that some 16 states had made it illegal for a white person to marry a non-white. The SCOTUS ruled on it in 1967 - you may wish to look at Wikipedia and do a search for Loving v. Virginia.

Also consider reading and getting some information about DOMA, because it will in no way change the states' position on marriage.

The problem with your limited argument is+ You would there for argue ...direct family members should be able to marry as well because because because it is simply a left over sentiment from race-marriage laws.

no. my point was, marriage is defined by the individuals involved within the marriage - always. how does allowing gay people to get married destroy the 'word' marriage? how does allowing gay people to get married make marriage nothing? does it destroy it faster than say, hollywood marriages or visa fraud marriages?
