 All true! :)

@inhistime did u ever ride a jeep, tricycle or train in Manila? If yes, you're lucky that you still have your jewelries :) yeah, extra careful

Normally, I take taxi - very seldom I take train. Oh yeah, I always take extra careful -- wherever I am :)

After reading this, maybe I shouldn't have got her a ring. I just got it from the jeweler yesterday (bought it over a week ago, but they had to resize it and ship it to me). But, I'm really happy with it. I was considering keeping it as a pinky ring haha. It only fits on the first third of my pinky.

It is a bit more flashy than I was originally looking for, but when I saw it I knew it was the one. It's an antique style round diamond with a halo and small diamonds set into the band- a little over 2 ct. set in 14K white gold. I'm having a custom ring box made from wood with our names engraved in it, too. I didn't think I would ever get so excited over this kind of thing, haha. I'm not telling how much I spent, but it was a bit more than I originally wanted to.

My concern now is for her safety. If someone steals the ring it can be replaced, I just don't want her to be harmed. I may suggest that I take it back with me, I don't know.

Before my wife came to the US in 2008 I spent 3500 US dollars on a ring and gave it to her in Manila. She never put it on orless I was with her on the trips I took there because of the robbers. Its not safe so dont do it. She waited until she arrived in the US to put it on.

My wife wanted an engagement ring that we purchased in Philippines (about $250, in which I was willing to spend more but she didn't like it. Even with that small diamond, she was afraid to wear it in public (and she was in Cebu). In USA, she started a job in food service and lost the diamond in one of her gloves that she didn't realize. So now she doesn't wear her rings except on the weekends. :)

People get robbed in broad daylight in certain areas of cities in the US too. I would just take caution where ever I am and especially if I am unfamiliar with the territory! There is no need to be paranoid. My fiancee has been wearing her nice engagement ring around Davao for almost a year now without problems. She even has to come home from work in the middle of the night sometimes! Yes, Manila is not Davao. New York is not Atlanta either, but each has undesirables and places one should not venture into. I would prefer to be incognito in most situations anyway much more if utilizing public transportation or walking a city street outside of a business or tourist district. I wouldn't worry about wearing an engagement ring around the US Embassy or St. Luke's area of Ermita, but that is just me.

Haha...she was working on food prep for the next day and we checked the containers just in case. All we know is that it was there during lunch time and wasn't at the end of her shift.

She lives in Davao city, too. That makes me feel better.

Good. I'm glad it does. Have you been to Davao? It's rather a pleasant place for the most part IMHO. Last time I was over there, local GUYS were walking around with big flashy watches. I was a little worried about mine, but it was nothing compared to their *bling* *bling* :D My advice is just be alert to your surroundings and be low key as possible. I am not out to be flashy and neither is Jessa. It's natural to be concerned and one should. I take the advice from Jessa and observe my surroundings, but being fearful would do nothing but make me an easy target.

i've live in Manila my whole living life. :)

everywhere you go there are robbers. its just about being careful.

i always wear my eternity ring (which i got myself as a present) everyday and it was never stolen.

and not all provinces are safe. if you wear flashy jewelry even if the people around you dont really have that intention of robbing they might be tempted.

so stay simple, yet elegant. ;)

Davao is a great city because of the DDS. (Davao Death Squad) the mayor has cleaned up that city. Americans need to be safe anywhere in Mindinao because of the terror connections there. I went there once in 2003 and was there 3 days and someone had a bomb in the waiting area and blew up and killed a bunch of people. The roof of the waiting area was gone.
