My wife filed her AOS i-485, along with the I-131 and I-765 on Oct 2. We got a receipt i-797 NOA from USCIS, but here are my questions

1. When we went to check online the case status, her receipt number could not be located. Does it take several weeks for it to get in the system?

2. My wife's K-1 visa expires on November 2. Is there anything else we need to do in the meantime? We're waiting to get a notice about her biometrics appt date.

3. How long does this AOS process take? Live in California, sent to Chicago lockbox. What sort of paperwork could we be compiling to get ready for the interview.

Thank you in advance for your assistance/feedback.

1) The online update system is sometimes unreliable. It happens, don't worry about it.

2) Her visa expired the day she used it. I guess you mean her I-94 expires on Nov. 2nd. No problem about it. Now that she filed for her AOS, she is now in a new period of authorized stay. Next step is the biometrics appointment letter, which should come in the coming month (even maybe tomorrow!).

3) The answer is very variable. It can be a few months as it can be a year. Your wife's case will either be processed at NBC without interview, or at your local USCIS office with an interview. Just wait patiently and see. If you want to get prepared for an eventual interview, gather the original documents that were needed in photocopies for her I-485 package, some recent pictures, joint documents (bills, bank account, insurance...).

Also, did she apply for a SSN yet? If not, you should do it as soon as possible (it's recommended to do it no later than 2 weeks before her I-94 expiration date, otherwise the SSA will refuse to give her a SSN).

Good luck on your paper work. Let see if I can help you somehow:

1- Double check the receipt number, it supposed to be able to access online. Did you received a hard copy of it already?

When I received my NOA1 hardcopy, the same day I register it on my USCIS account (you should be able to see your in case) again, check the letter and numbers when you type them out.

2- There's nothing else you can do once you are legally married, just wait for your appt letter to come. Hope it it will come soon

3- Its happing fast as most people are posting their experience, but each case is one case. I wouldn't worry about interview right now, cause you might not have one. if you do, they will ask for what they need from you. Otherwise, keep in mind to put together everything you and your wife have TOGETHER.

Good luck on your AOS journey :)

It's much easier if you can make all the joint accounts before the I-94 expires. We ran into problems trying to do this after my husbands expired.. Get a social security card if you haven't already gotten that too. Good Luck :)

yes she applied and got her SSN, we couldn't get her ID or driver's license because her K-1 fell under 60 days when we went to the DMV. So now just waiting for biometrics and interview.

Hi! We recently received our NOA1 as well via email and the hard copy, and the my case status online isn't working for us either.

When we received the NOA1 in the mail, we received four envelopes, one for AOS, one for AP, one for EAD and one with the biometrics appointment. I think those hard copies are the most important thing, the government isn't known for its technological advances LOL. I think if you have your hard copies, you'll be OK.
