Petitioner (husband) joining me for our CR-1 interview?

Is my husband (my petitioner) allowed to join me for my CR-1 interview?

I emailed the Montreal consulate, and after a MONTH, they replied that "American citizens are allowed to accompany applicants IF SPACE CONSTRAINTS PERMIT"... Does anyone how experience with this?

He wants to come with me, and I want him there for support (plus, I think it shows for a stronger case), but I don't want him to fly to Montreal just to be locked out!

They only spouses who got left out were the ones carrying large bags and that. The guard instructed them to wait at a coffee joint or something. There was a very sweet couple in front of me on the CR-1 and they got to do everything together. Then there were a couple behind me, nobody got refused entry except those who had large bags. Like there was a lady with a small child and she was allowed in with the diaper bag, but he had a small suitcase, or back pack or something and they got separated only for that reason. It's not necessary for him to go to your interview, but I agree with you, it will be nice to have him and it will make for a stronger case in my opinion. Not that you need to worry. Honestly, it's a very simple process. Do get there early and you won't worry about any wait or excess people. Imagine a passport Canada, or service Ontario, that's exactly how it is; open with a bunch of chairs and dockets.

Don't worry, petitioners are allowed inside the Montreal consulate. Just make sure he brings his passport as he needs that to get in!

When I was there for my interview, there was another VJ couple with the petitioner present. She was even allowed inside the interview room :)

Yep they can--with passport. But may not be allowed in for the interview. My wife didn't attend and many other don't as well. Canada is not a high fraud country. In other countries where it is, they can be highly recommended to show! for 99.9999% of Canucks, its the easiest and the fastest part of the whole process

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Flames9_RN, it's so GREAT to hear that the interview is the easy part. I'm relieved to know that Canadians aren't under serious scrutiny for the interview. So thanks, for that sigh or relief!!

We are thinking the interview is going to be a good excuse for us to take a mini vacation, and to just see each other. haha. Plus, he's really keen on being there for me, soooo, looks like he's coming.

I hope he doesn't get stuck in the waiting room.

Thanks everyone.

If you're going to make a vacation out of it, I recommend the church of Notre-Dame, it's maybe a 15 minute walk from the consulate. Gorgeous place if you're into history or that. That was the highlight of my trip LOL. Other than getting approved of course :P

I was allowed in with my husband. We had our baby with us, but I just had a couple of books for her and a blanket with no bag so I was fine. I even went back for the interview with him. It was good I did because he was fairly clueless as far as all the paperwork. :) Good luck!

Church of Notre-Damn. Got it. I also want to take him to old Montreal. I'm sure we'll have plenty to do, and hopefully something to CELEBRATE!!

And ok, seems like fairly positive responses for him being allowed to come in with me.

Just waiting for our interview date. The NVC lady told me first two weeks of December. I sure hope so, cause I wanna be in the US for XMASS!!

Thanks, everyone.
