Hi, I was petrified before my interview too. I had posted the same kind of post, just as worried as can be! I had everything ready, prepared and quadruple-checked! Still, sometimes you just need someone to tell you that it's gonna be ok!

Everything is gonna be just fine! Remember that you're about to accomplish what you've been waiting SO LONG for! Plus, you have your fiance with you! I was worried that going alone would cause problems, but it didn't!

Be assertive, confident, smile -after all this is a positive step - and everything will be fine!

Well, now I am worried they won't even let me in the building to go with my fiance for his interview because I just have an enhanced drivers license and not an actual passport book. UGH! :( I just want to cry right now.

There is no need to panic at all. You must have mixed up horror stories from high-fraud countries with stories from Canada. It will be a breeze and you will laugh at your stress. You being there won't make much of a difference. You could always give him the card to show his interviewers that you are waiting outside. Really, relax.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

Many USA spouses//fiances do not come up to the interview in Canada--Mine did not. Its not a problem!! You have a monthy til your interview, if one is that concerned they will spend the 10 min in filling out a Passport application and head to their post office. For Cdns, its usually the easiest part of the whole process

Edited by Flames9_RN

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Do an expedite passport request like mentioned, you have plenty of time!

I think there is a bit of miscommunication here... AmberLynnLoves is not worried about not passing the interview. She is worried she will not be allowed in the building with an EDL. The question this thread has now lead to is whether she will be allowed into the consulate with an EDL, as opposed to a U.S. passport.

Like I had noted, its great to hear that the petitioners presence at the interview is not required, but I think a few couples are wanting their petitioners to accompany them just because.

actually she mentioned in her first post that she was worried about being denied..

as for the passport/edl thing.. it isn't the end of the world if you can't get inside. I went by myself and I was fine. Having your spouse there won't make a difference in being denied or not. I would have loved to have my husband at the interview just for moral support but it wasn't financially feasible.

I just got rid of my EDL (such a hassle).. I honestly believe you will need a passport. But you should definitely call to confirm, but here's why I believe you'll need the passport.

1. Canadians do not recognize the EDL (only at the border) I have been told my ID is fake by so many people it's not even funny.

2. It says everywhere you need a passport to enter the consulate.

BUT! Definitely call Montreal Consulate directly and find out! Don't cry! No reason to cry at all, just a small hiccup that you'll be easily able to work around if you find out that you'll 100% need the passport. Just like the others have said, you can expedite your passport (you have plenty of time for that). My fiance just had to get his because I refused to come down to the US on my K1 without him and his expired Sept. 17th. I went to the interview by myself because he couldn't get the time off of work. If you want to be there, you'll get there! Don't you worry about this!

I'm not really worried about the interview itself. Its just nice to be reassured that everything will be ok.

As far as the enhanced ID/passport issues, I'll either spend the money to get one or just wait for him. Its the ability to experience the approval together as a couple. Its a personal preference for us I guess. Not really a HUGE deal, as I'll know the second he comes out the doors if he's approved or not.

Its just the way it is.

Even if you are not allowed inside the consulate it won't affect whether or not your fiance is approved. It still sucks that you probably won't be allowed to enter (I would try to get an expedited passport; failing that you can simply ask the security guards on the day of the interview.)

As for denial- it's rare for Canadians with their ducks lined in a row to get denied. From what I've gathered the most common cause of denial among Canadians is failing to provide adequate evidence of domicile, which is only needed when the USC lives outside the US (they have to prove that they will take up residence in the US). Since that isn't your case and you meet the income requirements and you have everything else ready to go, your fiance should be fine. The interview is one of the easiest parts of the process, trust me.

Good luck!

Being nervous is totally normal. I laughed at myself after about how stressed I was for no reason! That stress all came back when I applied for AOS. It's just uncertainty. Try to relax - I know it's hard.

pocheros is bang-on. Don't worry too much if you can't go inside. It won't affect your fiance's interview.

For anyone that was wondering for themselves, I emailed Montreal Embassy regarding the Enhanced Drivers License and asked them if that was sufficient to enter the Embassy for my fiance's interview, they replied to me today saying "Yes". So it looks as if we are good to go! :) One less thing to worry about!
