romney and obama are completely similar, sound bites and reddit memes aside.

There is a good amount of policy overlap between the two parties. If that is what you mean by "completely similar", then ok... but to do so is to ignore the good amount of policy differences between the two sides.

I can't decide if you're being glib or ignorant.

In all fairness, it's nearly impossible to go into details in these "debates." - That's what campaign websites are for. Limited details on the Romney campaign site, but still a lot more than what he says on TV. The information is out there, you just have to look for it.

These 90 minute 'debates' though are a true disservice to the ADD American people.

That would break up their playground though, now wouldn't it? We just can't have that happening....

The information is there? His tax plan is clear? I'd love to see where he lists the details of it because nobody else seems to find it and he sure isn't saying it.

It's not a plan, it's a framework. He's outlined his general approach and has said he intend to let Congress hammer out the details.

Does that sound familiar? It should... it's identical to the Obama approach in 2009 with respect to healthcare reform.

the policy is the same, essentially. only the presentation is different.

the united states is, at this point in time, a corporatocracy. the reason people like gary johnson (example) or ahem, jill stein (arrested last night) don't have more support, is because people don't know whotf they are. and we aren't supposed to.

Wrong.

Your comment reminds me of this line from the movie Billy Madison.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

He says his plan's math adds up. It does not.

x - y = 0

where the values of x and y will be determined later by Congress.

The math adds up. Prove me wrong.

I am sympathetic to your concerns about the plutocratic nature of our so-called democracy.

That said, tell me this. Who is a "legitimate candidate"? Is someone who can get a few million votes on Election Day but not win a single Electoral College seat "legitimate" or a waste of time?

Also: I assume you're now trusting the polls to tell you who is (and who isn't) in a position to win a few million votes. I had you pegged for someone who mistrusted polls. My bad.

I don't trust polls. They're a load of bullshit. You can't sample "450" people like CNN last night with their "BREAKING NEWS: Obama wins debate" and expect to be taken seriously. Well, at least by the sane part of society.

You're right on the electoral college side of things, but at the same time if candidates that have a large following cannot be heard any further than the campaign stops/websites/social media, then how are we to expect something different to take place.

The reform party was big for awhile, as was the green party. The libertarian party keeps growing, yet their voices don't get a time slot to speak on the coroporate media like the Reds and Blues do. Hell, PBS which is supposed to be "PUBLIC" information should at least host a debate that gives all parties a voice. After all, that was its original intention, but even it shows with time that it is a corporate led dog as well.

yes, tell me i'm wrong and then explain with a quote from an adam sandler movie.

sure.

i'm right. and here's a quote from a much better movie :

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

No major policy differences between the two parties?

You can't be serious. You're a fool if you believe that.

guess i'm a fool then.

i want to know how obama still has the support that does, considering his love affair with drones and the ndaa. those are my two main concerns. and romney wouldn't differ from obama in the slightest concerning these two issues.

I said this before and I'll say it again. Yes, there is considerable policy overlap. You offered a good example of an area where there is overlap.

But that does not mean there are no differences - major differences - in other areas.

If you are unable to look beyond the policy similarities that bother you and see the very real policy differences between the two... then continuing this exchange with you is a clear a waste of time.

Because people see "troops" being brought back home from the two wars, but don't understand how they are being replaced with private/corporate milities/security groups overseas.

People don't understand that Obama has increased spending on corporate "spying" at home on Americans.

Hell, they even let a damn special on PBS called "Top Secret America," run about it and people still ignore these facts.

People live and breathe talkig points. Everyone is so ADHD in modern society that they ignore atrocities happening around them.

"Oh look I killed Bin Laden, my foreign policy works. I won't prove to you that I got him, we threw the alleged body overboard, but you trust me so I know you believe me!"

It's all a distraction from what's going on here at home.
