Greetings

We have been so lucky to be finally through this process, or at least the initial step of it, and finally being together legally in one place, that we havent really thought about much beyond this yet.......

My wife came over on the 9th of this month with a CR1 visa and got a stamp in her passport on the page facing her visa, same type of stamp as all her other ones but this one says CR1 on it.

Do we need to do anything now? Will her actual green card be automatically mailed to our address? Do we need to physically apply somewhere for a social security number? I remember checking a place on an application during this process saying for it to be sent to us automatically, does this actually happen?

Any way any helps or hints on what we should be doing now for her to become settled with all her paper work in order so can get employment would be greatly appreciated.

Okay thanks and be well and good luck in this frustrating and long process in whatever stage you may be, eventually you will be together, and it will be all worth it.

The green card will arrive automatically, it can take any where from 3 weeks to 2 months.

The ssc# you apply for at your local social security office!

Green card and Social Security number will be automatically mailed to your address. If the SSN card is not received in about 3-4 weeks after arrival, then you will probably need to go to a local office to apply for it.

My wife's SSN card arrived about 2 weeks after she did.

Not true - my green card arrived automatically. I was all set to go and apply for it after about two weeks but it arrived in the post just over a week after my POE.

Wrong, my wife received her Social Security card in the mail a few weeks after her arrival. We didn't have to go apply for it.

I thought that the SS card arrived only if you checked that box on the DS-230....if not you had to apply for it...is that correct?

Thanks everyone....We did check the box on ds230 so we will be patient for a bit and see what happens if not we know what to do. thanks for the replies!
