:help: hi everyone....my fiance went to schedule his med exam and they told him he needed to wait until he got his interview letter. I read somewhere that others have scheduled the exam and just brought their approval letter. What have you all done for the exam? the Dr. told him that it only takes 3 days to sched the exam so we may be ok but I don't want to wait last minute. This process has been long enough.....

I really hope that we have the interview before Christmas. I wish all of you the same! I guess we just sit back and support each other through this....

All varies with Dr's some don't even require a letter. Where abouts are you? That way others can give you advice on Dr's in your area.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

some doctors won't schedule without the interview letter. I wouldn't worry. I got my letter, called the Dr office, and had an appointment scheduled in plenty of time before my interview.

I was able to schedule the interview without the letter. But I do need to bring the letter that came in Packet # which has the file # on it. I think it's just cause they need the reference to to the file.

Mind you, my apt is Nov 15 and if I go there and they say, "sorry, we need to letter" I am sooooo going to flip out!!!

Flame, I hear you! Which Dr. are you going to? Keep me posted because if they don't ask you for the letter then maybe my fiance can get his exam without it as well.

Alld epends on the DR. In Halifax, he didnt do much!! Took my height, weight, listened to my airways, asked some very general health related questions. Very quick. Went to the hospital for bloodwork and Xrays!! I believe they are looking more towards diseases than anything

In and out and it's all quite easy. Same as flames. I found more talking than anything. Nothing to make ya feel uncomfortable.

I read a little about this and seems like medicals for other types of visa requires the interview letter....BUT

Since you need to check mark that you have your medical results PRIOR to receive your interview letter with the date, I think for K-1s all you need is your NVC number on your letter that comes with Packet 3.

I need a clarification on that one but I think you should specify its for a K-1 because it would not make sense then if you would have to have it before they even assign you an interview date....

Let me know cause Im going through Montreal as well for everything ( i live there!)

mephys......thank you for the info. from what other people have said, some Dr.'s request the letter with the interview date on it and others don't. Other people have said they have called the Dr. and checked it off on the list and then sent the checklist in.....That's what we did as well.......

I know this is somewhat of a dated thread, but I'll add my .02 worth anyway... My fiancee just had her medical exam by Dr. Frank Doane in Halifax last week (Nov. 9th). It all seemed pretty routine until he asked her to strip and then lay on the table so he could do a breast exam and pelvic exam, feel around her ovaries and such. Since she was not prepared for this, she was quite uncomfortable. I was pretty pissed myself, but I understand that that Uncle Sam doesn't want anybody carrying communicable diseases into the country...but a breast exam? #######?

I went to London Ontario for mine and they didn't require the letter, although their website said they do. I just called and asked, all they needed was my case #. Has your fiance called the Dr. to check if they will take the # from the letter rec'd with packet 3.

I think that any medical exam in 2006 it is pretty fair to expect a breast exam. I have never found a breast exam offensive. I mean granted it isn't the most flattering thing to share with a stranger. But in the big picture.....the more professional breast exams the more secure I feel. Besides....we do breast exams on ourselves monthly. Hehe! Think of it is preparation for regular mamograms. ;)

When I went for my medical exam at Dr. Seiden's in Toronto a male doctor did the regular exam, but a female nurse did the breast exam over top of my paper gown. Not once did I feel uncomfortable and it was actually the nurse who said I didn't need to remove the gown.

I was quite happy about that because I don't just reveal the girls for anybody ;)

Regarding the letter, I know when I called to make my appointment, they asked me to bring the letter and to see it when I was there.
