BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — A teenaged girl received 60 lashes in Timbuktu after Islamist extremists convicted her of speaking to men on the street.

The girl, about 15 years old, was allegedly caught standing alongside men by the Islamists of Ansar Dine who now run Timbuktu.

"The Islamists charged that the girl was warned five times by Islamist police but she continued to speak to men in the street. After the hearing, the Islamists gave 60 lashes to the girl. The population did not turn out in large numbers to attend this flogging," said Ousmane Maiga, a Timbuktu resident contacted by phone from Bamako.

The public whipping took place at around 11 a.m. local time in front of the new headquarters of the Islamic police in downtown Timbuktu, next to Independence Square.

No I'm pointing out that not all muslims are extremists just like all christians don't run round with white sheets burning crosses and lynching minorities.

The KKK these days is a social pariah lambasted by everyone. They hold no power, no social standing and are openly mocked by everyone. Comparing them to extremist Muslims is like saying lizards are not so bad, just look at grapes.

I was responding to a specific post that implied that the action of this group of people was the norm for all muslims. I was trying to use irony to point out that just because some people use their religion as an excuse to do horrible things doesn't mean that all members of that religion agree.

Over 3000 men women and children died in terrorist atrocities in Northern Ireland in the name of 2 branches of christianity. Should we all take from this that all christians are mass murderers?

Over 3000 men women and children died in terrorist atrocities in Northern Ireland in the name of 2 branches of christianity. Should we all take from this that all christians are mass murderers?

So the Irish trying to get rid of the UK invaders/occupiers is comparable to the Muslim's stoning women to death for supposed adultry, honor killings, public beatings, mutilation, etc.. correct?

btw Northern Ireland wasn't about Irish fighting Irish. Those protestants carrying the Orange flags in Northern Ireland are as much Irish as an Italian or a Greek. They are nothing more than what's left over from the original UK invaders. They occupy the northern half of Ireland hence the name "Northern Ireland".

BTW: If you bother to post about all those atrocities I bet nobody would be bringing up acts by extremest Muslims as a way to justify those actions.... because it wouldn't make sense.
