Michelle:

Try www.cookinglight.com

They do have some complex recipes, but you can search for supper fast recipes, they are simple and quick.

I guess that part of eating healthy is kinda planning what you're going to be cooking, you know? I started by selecting a few recipes I wanted to try and went a shopped for the whole thing. That way, you start stocking on spices and certain ingredients that you dont have at hand right now. After a little while, cooking with olive oil, using whole wheat pasta, bread, etc. does not even phase you, because you find ways to make them taste really yummy.

Baby steps is certainly the way to go... I have a few recipes I can send you, and when I find them, I will...

Good luck in your healthier route!

Ana

If you can eliminate refined sugar from your diet, your tastebuds will begin to taste flavors in veggies and fruits better.

Yeah better to tell this stuff tastes like sh*t and how much more I rather have a Snickers. LOL I don't care what I do a carrot stick isn't taking the place of a piece of cake.

Sautee (sp) your vegetables in olive oil or blanch them in boiling water for a couple of minutes. :star:

A little pricey.

Canola oil has somewhat similar ratios, and is much more economical than olive.

South Indians (including myself) would say that till (sesame) oil is the best--but, like olive, it is a little expensive to use for sauteeing.

Another way to improve flavour is to sautee about 4 oz of brown mustard seed, 4 oz of cumin and 2 oz of urad dal and then store this, and use it as garnish for vegetables sauteed with cooking-spray. (yes, I have used this approach).

If you really want to go healthy do not use a lot of olive oil to cook with. It is not a very stable oil, and when heated can do more damage than good. It is, however, better than other vegetable oils. It is fine to use in salad dressing. I use coconut oil to cook with and my cholesterol count has since dropped through the floor, even though it wasn't high to start with.

Here is an article about oils, but of course, you can do your own research into it.

Really? Wow! I always thought coconut oil was not healthy to use. Where can I find it - I don't think I've seen it with the rest of the oils. :star:

Virgin organic coconut oil is the best IMHO as it hasn't been processed in any way. I know a lot of asian markets sell coconut oil and more often than not it has been processed which renders it as one of the unsafe oils. I get mine online, but they sell it at co-ops and health food stores almost everywhere now.
