opening a bank account in the US

hiya everyone.

My fiancé had his interview on the 10th October and got his visa three days later through courier service. :D So I'm really chuffed he got it except we have loose ends to tie up (well moreso for him) before he comes here on the 7th. (Weird that it's election day as well too).

We would like to move out after we get married (just simple civil ceremony) but I know that the process of buying a place/renting requires a credit check. Additionally, he's curious about transferring money from his account in the UK to either my account here in the US or I may open another one at another bank.

So, with that in mind, what would my fiancé need to do before he comes here? Any suggestions/past experience explanations would be really awesome.

A few thing to keep in mind when you move you will need to file a change of address with the USCIS.

Also most banks will want a SS number for the Spouse so that is one thing you will want to apply for as soon as your fiance(e) arrives in the states.

And print out thei web page and bring to SSA office to avoid hassles, K-1 holders can get an SS card.
