As we are waiting for a "case closed" advisory from the NVC, leading to an interview date hopefully yet this year, instead we receive an email advising of the documents still requiring submission including the entire supporting document package which was submitted October 4th, as well as the Affidavit of Support which was submitted Sept. 8.

So I'm looking at the email and questioning WTH is going on? Of course I got on the phone and inquired. I was advised our DS-260 was just reviewed, having been submitted Sept. 20 although my supporting docs weren't submitted for 2 weeks beyond that. And supposedly due to that being just now reviewed, the email came out advising what supporting documents were required. Supposedly I can ignore the email. I was also advised of the standard "up to 20 day processing time" upon receipt of documents. So this is all "somewhat" fine with exception to the fact on the CEAC site they quote "Upon receipt of your supporting documentation, the NVC will review your DS-260". Does that mean we are now days or weeks away from completion? I am having a hard time grasping what reality is so if anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated.

With regards to the AOS, I was advised they didn't have it in their system even though we received a confirmation of receipt. He suggested resending it which we have done.

I know there is nothing I can do about any of this which I suppose is why I am expressing my frustration here and looking for any sort of feedback from others with similar experiences.

September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

queues abound - please remember that.

as to the email you've received, it's a false checklist letter.

you can tell it's false, really, because it's asking for all

and you've already sent the thing it's referenced.

a real checklist letter contains specific information, a smaller list of what they want.

a complete list, otoh, is a good sign this is a false checklist.

many get them.

Why, you ask?

Cause of them there queues. Sometimes it seems that the left hand (the mailroom) doesn't know what the right hand (the reviewers) are doing, and in the middle, is a dysfunctional computer system that was never programmmed to 'go fast' or even handle the numerous EP cases with the change in process for EP.

not dysfunctional computer. just not properly implemented. every step requires human to stop and check, might as well go back to paper trail. you thought this day and age computers should be the ones checking for errors instead of human. wow.

01/20/12 - I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox.

01/26/12 - NOA1 received and processing at Vermont.

06/28/12 - NOA2 announced on status check.

06/29/12 - NVC received case learned on 07/2/12.

06/30/12 - Hard copy NOA2 received.

07/09/12 - NVC Casefile Number and IIN Issued.

07/16/12 - Receive and Sent DS-3032 via email.

07/17/12 - Mailed DS-3032 via mail, AOS bill received via email, paid online, Optin email sent.

07/18/12 - Optin accepted and new case number, AOS marked paid, emailed AOS packet.

07/24/12 - Assigned as Agent, IV Fee bill received via email, paid online.

07/25/12 - IV Fee marked paid, emailed IV packet.

07/31/12 - Emailed GZO Supplemental Packet 3.

08/02/12 - Case completed and commenced final review.

08/03/12 - Shipped all copies of forms/letters/documents to my wife - arriving on 8/9/12.

08/06/12 - Case completed final review.

08/09/12 - Appointment letter received via email interview date set 9/6/12.

08/14/12 - Medical exam done.

08/15/12 - Medical exam results all normal.

09/06/12 - Submitted required documents at the embassy and interview set next day at 0730.

Appreciate the feedback. Accepting that it was a false checklist and their system is dysfunctional I have one remaining question related to the 2 following facts:

1. The CEAC site stating "Upon receipt of your supporting documentation, the NVC will review your DS-260".

2. The NVC personnel on the phone yesterday advising my DS-260 was now reviewed, or being reviewed(unclear which), but providing the standard "expect 20 days for processing upon receipt of documents"

Although I make it a general practice to not make assumptions, would it be reasonable to believe our case is now under review?

If in fact it is, should I just wait for an email of "case complete" or heaven forbid an RFE, or should I contact them and inquire in a couple days?

the only assumption that you can make, at this point, is that it's in one of two queues.

first queue - the pile of EP documents still to be assigned to a reviewer

second queue - the queue for THAT reviewer

There's other queues after the review is complete.

Well it turns out our case is complete with exception of the AOS they somehow misplaced and we had to resend. With any luck they will get around to reviewing that long before the 20 day standard.

Thanks Darnell, it was a bit of a disappointment discovering my better half neglected to attach the file when the AOS was resent :bonk: but I confirmed Wednesday we are now waiting for an interview date. I suspect we should receive one maybe by the end of next week or early the week following for December in Montreal. It "could" be the best Christmas ever! :)
