Original Birth Certificate Sent With I-130

I sent my wife's original birth certificate with the initial I-130 petition to the USCIS. Now, I realize I should have sent a copy because the IV packet requires "original" civil documents.

Does the USCIS forward everything to the NVC or will my wife have to request a new birth certificate for the IV packet that is going to the NVC?

I took a gamble and sent a copy of her birth certificate with the IV packet and stated in the letter that the original was sent with the I-130 petition. Any comments or suggestions? I tried searching the forums for a similar situation without any luck. I'm sure somebody else has had this same problem.

I would suggest she apply for one B4 the last minute (they may lose the one sent)

Thanks for the quick response. The fact that the NVC has already received my case and I-130 petition from USCIS means that they should have the entire packet (including wife's original birth certificate) I sent initially, right?

I would hate for them to come back and say I need to send an original birth certificate when it is sitting in front of them along with the initial I-130 packet.

This is the same question I have. I'd sent gov't issued copies of birth certificate and marriage certificate (identical to the original). I do have the "originals". I will not send the originals to NVC, I will put a note on my cover letter that says gov't issued copies were submitted with my petition. Since NVC works faster than USCIS, an RFE (if issued) will set me back 2 weeks? 2 weeks is not that bad (when compared to USCIS pace).

Recommendation: Try to get another copy if possible.

I guess the basic questions here are:

1) Does the USCIS forward everything received (I-130 packet, I-129F packet, etc.) to the NVC?

2) If so, would the person working on the case realize that original documents are in the I-130 packet and combine them with the IV packet?

I haven't been able to find anything clear about this topic. I'm sure others have sent original documents to USCIS and expected to receive them back.

It was my mistake. I would still like to know if the UCSIS forwards everything to the NVC. I guess I'll soon find out and update this thread.

everybody makes mistakes. try and call NVC and explain your situation.
