Hello

A little bit about the story:

- September 26, 2012: I got approved with interview

- September 28, 2012: I got my Welcome letter

- October 4, 2012: Green Card delivered but never received

We have check everywhere and found out that my GC has been sent to my previous address... (no idea why... but anyway). I have the receipt of the change of address online so they did something wrong.

I called the customer service again to tell them that the card was never received and they had to send me a new one. The lady told me that they open a case and I have to wait until the 28 (I'm sure they are going to ask me to complete the form I-90 and wait for 2 month).

In the same time we went back and forth between the US post office and our previous apartment to find out if nobody saw it and of course nobody did. The US post office did a mistake too by delivering the mail. They knew about the change of address and did not give it back to the sender. I will ask a letter from them on Monday to show it to the USCIS.

I can't wait more month to have the right to work in USA, living is expensive and I think I already wait too much.

The only solution I founded to not wait for a long time is asking for a I-551 stamp in my visa so I can get a social security number. I already have my infopass appointment on October 24.

Do you think it's going to work? what else can I do?

Regards

Yes it's exactly my problem. Wish I can make it go faster... I don't mind going at my local office without appointment and wait 4 hours there but I don't think they are going to let me do that :)

My biggest worry is that I'm not sure if it's that 'easy' to get the I-551 stamps...

blush.gif I know how you feel. We have to deal with these hiccups, from time to time, and it's really frustrating.

Just a few more days until you get your appointment. I'll have one soon to fix one of their mistakes headbonk.gif

When you filed for AOS you didn't add the EAD and AP combo? I assumed you hadn't because you said you couldn't work. Are you adjusting from a K1 visa?

No I didn't because I didn't know at that time about them. Wish I did them so month ago... I just got a job position today and of course they want to wait for my SSN :(

You will get the stamp without problem. You are an LPR. Tell them your card is lost in the mail, they will see you've put in a request for it, not a problem.

Once you get the stamp (the sooner the better) then you need to go get a SSN. Once you have applied for the SSN wait a day or so and go back and ask for them to give you the number (you won't be able to get the card yet but you can use that number with your new job)

Good luck!

O that's good news :) I guess there is a chance that I will have everything setup at the end of this month.

I saw that stamps are most of the time valid for 6 month or max 1 year... if I do get a SSN with the I-551 stamp, will it be valid as long as the stamp or the green card (the one that somebody, who must be a genius, had probably put in a trash :( ) ?

The SSN will be valid forever. Length of time on the stamp doesn't matter (unless you apply for the SSN close to it expiring). They will probably give you a stamp for a year (or the validity of your GC). The SSN will not have any conditions on it (it will just have your name and your SS number).

Don't worry :)

Good! Thanks for the infos.

I will update this topic when I will have more news...
