Sorry bro, but you just can't have it both ways. Either what the UN says means something or it doesn't. If it does mean something then we should have gotten a mandate from said organization or stayed the ** out of Iraq. If it doesn't, then we didn't really have any beef to begin with as Saddam was just disregarding that which doesn't mean a thing in the first place.
The UN is a failed concept in todays day and age.. Sure it might have worked back when it was setup but is simply failing the world today. The reality is that the world is divided and key players have their own agenda.
Having said what you just said, would you remind me again why we invaded Iraq?

For example Russia and China will never ever enforce any sanctions against their oil buddies Iran. Therefore nothing will ever get done..

I think you'll find that was ALWAYS the case.

Oh, while we're talking about buddies:

Saddam_rumsfeld.jpg

If we go by your somewhat lame example of freindship, Once freinds always freinds scenario you put yourself in a little bit of a pinch dont you think? under this foolish thinking the world would be black ball with no life what so ever! at that point in history the U.s. just went through the hostage crisis with Iran REMEMBER?????? If we used your mentality we would still be at war with Germany,Russia and Japan! I just finished watching the national geographic special on Saddam Hussein! If you think he should still be in power, you might seriously think about what you been readin! maybe get a little more sleep at night! If some of our so called allies got serious about terrorism and make a decision to go after them and anhiliate them then the picture would look alot different.

Now that's a stretch if I've ever seen one. And what exactly did Iraq have to do with the terrorists that we are supposedly fighting? You still didn't get the memo that all those Saddam / AQ links were nothing but blatant lies put forth by the President to get his wet dream fulfilled and go after the man because, as Georgie put it "he wanted to kill my dad"? I think it's time you did some reading. ;)

Read up on what happened in 1953 and you might get an idea of why things are so ###### up in Iran.

Saddam Hussein - a man who idolised Josef Stalin so much that he not only modelled his regime loosely after that of the Soviet Union, but even dressed up like the guy.

Considering that Islam figures nowhere in that assessment, I do have to wonder exactly what level of cooperation a proto-communist dictator would have with a fanatical religious movement who's goals and philosophy is the almost complete opposite of their own.

While you're clapping yourself on the back about Iraq (which according to some reports is sliding irrevocably towards a civil war), ask yourself about the 50 or so other similar dictators throughout the world who's people are oppressed on a daily basis. It seems that for a lot of people, if its not on TV - it doesn't exist. If it is on TV - you can feel all warm and cuddly about it

Having said what you just said, would you remind me again why we invaded Iraq?

The information on hand suggested they had WMD and where going to pass them on to terrorists.

Plus the following reason:

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I'll bet Bush had a hard-on on that podium.

Nonsense. The information on hand was that the UN inspectors were unable to find any WMD's. They couldn't finish their job not because Saddam didn't let them but because we ordered them out. The part of passing WMD's to terrorists was nothing but a bunch of made up #######. Blatant, flat-out lies of the administration. There was never any substance to it.

I remember W standing there whining about Saddam not complying with UN resolutions. That was the official reason for us going in. Of course, W disregarded the UN just the same by doing so.

Bingo, I was waiting for a comment like that. What you are basically implying with that statement is that the US is to blame. Then when someone catches you out, you turn around and accuse others of using the anti-american excuse..

What the ###### was that statement then, Pro- American?? There is no middle ground.

PS Like any other nation has never made any mistakes in their past..

I'll bet Bush had a hard-on on that podium.

It must be really bad for one to change direction..

Um... what's your point? The US DID oust the government of Iran, staring a chain of events that has lead to the country being taken over by an Islamic Theocracy. If I'm wrong about that, please correct me.

I have my own perspective on this coming from a country with a well-known imperialist past in the 18th century. You won't find anyone in Britain these days (perhaps outside of the national front) who would argue that what we did to India and China is something to be proud of, not to mention our own adventures in Africa and the Middle East. A lot of the worlds problems can be traced back to the intervention of various powers in the affairs of other countries.

What about people against going to Iraq? Back then it was apparently about oil. Now it seems to be about George lying about WMD and not staying the course.. People with similar views change their attacks on a yearly basis..

Come to think of it. Haven't people with similar views been saying we should get OUT as we should not have been there in the first place? Now that he is not staying the course, you guys are still bagging him..
