My wife is in a similar situation, and I think the cheapest way is just to pay for an extra bag with Qantas.

You already get two giant suitcases of 23kg each, plus one carry-on of 7kg, PLUS a personal backpack/purse, which doesn't technically have a weight to it, but just needs to fit under the seat. We're each taking two 23kg suitcases, and paying for one more ($90)

A bicycle can count as one of your pieces of luggage (you must use special bike boxes)

Good luck!

Hi

I was faced with a similar situation (I was flying from SYD to SFO) last month, however I found an unbelievable deal with Hawaiian Airlines. They allow 2 bags (31kg) per ticket as normal baggage allowed and every extra bag (3rd bag onwards) was $100 (AUD) per bag. Also on comparison, Hawaiian Airlines was offering the cheapest ticket in comparison to all other airlines.

Also Honolulu as POE is a good option as there is hardly any queue and the custom officers are very friendly.

Hope this helps.

UPS Freight. Sounds crazy, but I am getting quoted around $170AUD per moving box to the US.

You can use Interparcel.com.au for easy quotation rather than going via the UPS Freight website.

I'm using King & Wilson they are charging me $1800 for 15 tea chest size boxes and 10 book boxes sent in a shared container. They are packing for me and checking all the customs paperwork. It was by far the best quote I got, other companies wanted up to $3500!!!!

Nice! Now if any of you are moving to the Iowa/Illinois area let me know. I'd pay for space on a box. I basically only have 2-3 boxes of ####### left.. and by "boxes" I mean relatively small ones too.. just my art box is heavy and I can't validate spending that much... yet... my husband wants to ship my car too (sans motor).. so.. let me know :D

Even if you don't have space.. SOMEONE please move to the Iowa/Illinois area!
