Hello,

My name is Lucas, I am a student and I applied for a change of non immigrant status from J1 to B2, at September 4th. The thing is that now my Visa Expired and I am still waiting for the decision. I have a doubt that I hope you can answer for me.

In my case Is possible to travel by plane from California to visit New York for a few days during this time of visa processing?

From the USCIS I have a letter that is confirming that they received my application. Has my name on it, the confirmation number...

This letter will be enough in the airport?

Thank You so much for the help,

Best Regards,

Lucas

You should have no problems travelling internally. The airport security are looking for identification concerns, not immigration concerns. Bring the letter with you if anyone questions you, but I highly doubt it will even be an issue. They will only look at the identification page in your passport and no-where else. Good luck with your request and enjoy your visit to New York.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Domestic flights only need some sort of identification. This can come in as a valid passport, a driver's license, or a state issued identification card (ID). They won't care if your visa expired in your passport, or whether you did anything to extend your stay, or change your status to ensure you are legal. They don't care at domestic flights. So enjoy your flight!
