Hi,

I just married my boyfriend who has been on an F-1 Visa since September 2011. We do not have the funds to hire a lawyer so we are trying to do this on our own.

So far I have filled out the I-130, I-485, and the G-325A (for both of us). Since I am still getting my doctorate and I'm not working I've had to ask my mom to fill out form I-864 as a joint sponsor.

My husband is still taking Fall Classes right now and he still plans on taking Spring Classes starting in February and during school time he does not plan on working.

Do we still need to fill out I-765 and if we do need to fill it out what do I put for the date after the Which USCIS Office? I haven't submitted anything yet so its not like I would know when we will be going to the office.

Is this I-765 form to grant authorization during the entire time of the green card or is it just for the waiting period until he gets a green card?

Also do I need to send out the I-131 at this time as well or do I need to wait for the 130, 485, and 325A to go through first?

Are there any other USCIC forms I am missing from this checklist (other than the supplemental materials i need to send such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport, passport photos)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Husband was switching from Student Visa to Permanent Resident (in his last semester of his program)

10/29/2012 Sent Package (I-130, 485, 765, 864, and 131) to Chicago Lockbox via Priority Mail

11/1/2012 Arrived at Chicago Lock Box

11/6/2012 Received 4 Acceptance text messages and emails with receipt number

11/7/2012 Filing Fee Checks Cashed

11/12/2012 ASC Appointment Notice

12/06/2012 Biometrics Done in LA

01/02/2013 Received notice for Interview Appointment on 02/05/2013 (notice said to get medical complete as well)

01/22/2013 Received EAD card

01/26/2013 Went to USCIS approved Physician to complete medical, picked up results on 02/02/2013

02/05/2013 Interview at USCIS, Gave office medical results, Approved pending Affidavit of Support (originally I only included my mothers, but that day they said I had to include one as well even though I'm not working)

02/06/2013 Dropped off my Affidavit of Support to the office in LA, Finally Approved!!

02/14/2013 Received official letters

02/16/2013 Husband's Green Card Came in the Mail!!

Overall the process until approval took about 3 months. Not bad and didn't even have a lawyer.
