Just because you don't care about people you aren't directly involved with, doesn't mean nobody else on the planet does.

cynical? miserable? No, it's called reality. There is no human being on this earth that is selfless. Everyone has a reason for doing something that pleases themselves or makes themselves feel good in one way or another.

Why do you marry your partner? Because YOU like/care about them.

Why do you care about them? Because THEY make you feel good in some way.

Why do you stop and help a stranger on the street (or why do some leave them there), because it makes you feel good in some way.

Everything in this life is self-less. Even those moments when one has to risk their own life. Self-satisfaction is all it is.

Like it or not, it's how the human brain functions.
