There are lots of people in the UK too who want to travel for more than 3 months and have letters from employers showing ties to the UK etc. but get denied. However, the US gov way of thinking is that if you are eligible for the VWP you should not apply for a B2. Wanting to go for longer is seen as wanting to live in the US (It's ridiculous I know)

If you have booked an appointment for the B2 you might as well turn up as a no show is recorded as a denial!!

You may be lucky and get the B2 -just be warned in the case of the London embassy the staff do not tend to look at any evidence of ties to one's home country.

If the B2 is denied, your VWP is no longer valid and you have to re-apply. Getting a new VWP will probably take six months (but not always- some people get approved very quickly even with a prior B2 denial.

Be prepared for the worse, and then if all turns out well it will be a pleasant surprise. Good luck. Keep us posted on your B2 interview.
