hi i just wana ask if ur papers transfer to houston local office? did u call uscis to follow up ur case? tnx

My I-130 did transfer to Houston, back on November 19. I was not notified that this happened.

I did call USCIS. I called them every week for a case update since I heard the online case status was unreliable. One week, an ISO put in a service request for me without my knowledge. I received a notice that my file was undergoing additional processing and would take up to a further 6 months. Then a couple weeks later I was approved.

No rhyme or rhythm to this stuff at all. There is basically not much you can do.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

All advice is given pursuant to the Disclaimer that you may read at the bottom of each forum page.

LATEST STEPS:

28 Jun 2013: POE Houston

08 Jul 2013: SSN received (at SSA office)

07 Aug 2013: Green Card received

27 Feb 2014: Whoa, life happened. Planning move "back home" together to Republic of Ireland by end of April.

29 Apr 2014: POE Dublin through Heathrow

15 May 2014: Received formal residency/work permission (GNIB card with Stamp 4, one year renewable) for the ROI

For my FULL timeline, see my "About Me" page.

I will continue to post the spreadsheet for my filing date. I suspect that less than 50 percent of approvable filers will have been approved by next Sunday when I run the sample again. I wouldn't be alarmed until I see patterns of consistent delay. Still, delay is not denial! Although I was approved, I fully expected an RFE myself, and I was shocked not to get one. The best thing I can say is don't be worried until you have a good reason to worry.

I know it's hard as hell... god, I've been in therapy to work on my anxiety issues (it is helping yay!!) so I know the mental pain everyone's going through. But when did the government ever care about mental distress? But here on the forum, we care. We're helpless to do much about it but reassure you and help you if you hit a snag. But we do care.

I think so. If your husband's letter said that the case needed additional processing and to wait an amount of time, and it didn't say why it needed the processing, or anything else, then it was the same sort of letter I got. Since your husband's letter mentioned an interview, he should be prepared to bring all of the evidence of your bona fide marriage with him if he is called in. He may not be. It sounds to me as though the USCIS rep put in a service request like they did for me, and that the case is likely on someone's desk and is going through the normal process. Some people have to wait the full 60 days and some don't. I would wait at least some of that time before contacting the USCIS again.

There's no particular harm in asking for an InfoPass appointment to go to the field office in person if you have specific questions about the case, or if you know they have a specific issue with your case. But there's not much point asking for an InfoPass unless you know there's some issue with, for example, your background check (criminal or previous immigration trouble), lack of evidence (although, to my shock, that apparently did not stop our case), or missing essential documentation that you can now bring in (marriage certificate, citizenship of US petitioner, photos, evidence of previous marriages being dissolved, etc.).

Everyone wants some magic ritual or talisman that they can perform to make the approval happen faster. I'm absolutely certain that if there really was such a thing, we'd know about it by now. The best thing you can do is take care of your physical, emotional, and financial health to the best of your ability so you can be ready to react appropriately to any decision.

Case status moved today from Decision to Post Decision Activity. The Decision for approval was February 6; the letter was sent February 7. It's now the 8th. Time to get moooooooving!
