Prior to the MSC Migration ;)

If an I-130 was sent to a local office, it was solely because USCIS wanted an interview with the petitioner, for what ever reason.

Getting pegged for a local interview was usually the kiss of death, as the Petitioner might be wanted on some Federal Charge, or the FBI was looking for them, or something else legal-istic.

A Local Interview was never to 'garner more information' on the casefile, that's what an RFE is for.

However, since casefiles have been sent to local office, I'm assuming that these two things, as data points, are paired in the USCIS system:

1. casefile sent to local office and

2. petitioner pegged for interview at local office

and the programming was never changed once casefiles were at MSC.

So, if you are reading this, and really have an interview at a local office thats NOT from an infopass - heads up !

If your casefile is AT the local office, an infopass appointment makes sense - but - from my experience with it - I strongly suggest once you are there, to ask the desk clerk for the head of the I-130 unit, and start asking pointed questions about THEIR workflow , and ask WHY they are sitting on the casefile, reminding them that FBI checks only take 24 hours now..

This looks to me a bit paranoid... I am called for an interview and I have none of the above reasons... a good law abiding citizen and hard worker with responsibilities... Why speculate and frighten people?

It's not speculation, alas.

I'm giving a historical thing here.

FWIW, I too was pegged for a local interview - but within in a 3 week span, that one data bit vanished from my casefile status at USCIS, as told to me by an ISO.

Being Pegged for a local interview is NOT the same thing as having an appointment letter for a local interview in hand - do remember that, aye?

If USCIS says you are pegged for a local interview and you NOT have an interview letter from the local office, is a really good chance (based on the empirical data collected here) that there WON'T be a local interview if your casefile is at the local office. It's a data error, aye? Fallout from MSC and bad programming already in place.

I've checked all sorts of numbers before and after mine. Essentially 40 until 10 are I-130 from my date. Going up and down 01 and 86 are post decision. Closest ones to me. But considering when I go up and down they're all from MY priority date... I'm thinking quite a few filed mid october. LOL

In the end, I've checked them but I can't do anything about it. So I'm going to stop checking. Once a day before bed at the USCIS site and that should be good. Being on here is almost more depressing honestly. I feel so bad for the people at CSC and VSC. We're stressing over a month, and they're waiting for a great deal longer. VSC is still processing May! Goodness I can't imagine how hard that must be. Especially for people who can't see their spouses.

Right... I have an appointment letter for an interview... I cannot find any explanation why.

Yep know how you feel. It's probably even worse for you considering you had an expedite request in there and did an infopass! sad.gif
