Hello everyone, I have been looking into available options for translation devices. And comparing prices. In the process I have discovered a cell phone app. that needs androin 1.6 or higher operating system. the company is using nuance, inc. software ( dragon naturally speaking ) A software program where you talk into the mike and it types on your computer..

the name of the App. is Speech Trans. So for 9.99 a month you can use unlimited service.

1. you can talk into your cell phone up to 55 seconds and send it and it comes back translated with a native speaker for Russian speaking the translated version of what you said / sent and it also does it in reverse so a Russian speaker can talk and have it translated into english audio. It also works where you can take a photo of a sign or restaraunt menu, ect.. ant send it and it will return in text in english.

My question;;; what cell service provider is the most dependable in Ukraine with the widest area of coverage. ? including any U.S. providers that have service over there.

No I am not an electronics techie so this is all new to me.

Thanks for all your help.

:help: :help: The reason I am asking is that many companies promise the world so to say and there are places where the service is unavailable. I am looking at the city of Zaporozhye, and surrounding areas of Ukraine.

thanks.

I don't know about Ukraine. In Russia, all of the major providers are pretty consistent within the cities. In particular, MegaFon, MTS, and Beeline are quite reputable and reliable. That's Russia though (not Ukraine). And if you get too far into the country, I'm sure you'll have problems.

I just spent 10 days in the Ukraine with my fiance and took my Ipad and Iphone, my carrier is AT&T and I bought a text plan on the phone so I could communicate back to the states without paying through the nose and I purchased a different package for the Ipad, allowing me to access data when not connected to WIFI. When I got to the Ukraine I did not recognize the carrier icon on phone so I assume that AT&T reciprocate with a Ukrainian carrier. The bottom line was the navigation program worked great, I had plenty of access to internet and the 3 translation apps on the IPAD all worked well. Just activate the Russian keyboard and you are good to go. Did not use the speach programs near as much as typed input, they all have problems with speach recognition and background noise. 10 days, no translator, peice of cake.

We use Kyivstar, which is a prepaid card system. Used to be that is what everyone used but I am not sure if they still do. We do. We have used the phones all over Ukraine and had no problem with that service. We just take our "Ukraine" phones with us and buy a refill card when we get there. Alla also has a "Russia phone"

I always laugh when Americans are doing business with scammers and the scammer tell sthem they need money "for a cell phone" because they "do not have one"

Hint: Most Ukrainians have more than one cell phoen and at least one is surgically attached to their ear while the other is used for texting.

Another thing about Russian cell phones (not really germaine to the original questions but sort of on topic) is that they often have space for multiple (2-4) sim cards. This allows you to use one phone but receive, text, or make calls from different numbers, allowing you to get the best of various different packages and carriers. For instance, a lot of carriers offer free or cheap calls to other phones in their network. So you get a sim card from each carrier and can make free calls to any carrier.
