Sorry. I was distracted. Did you post something?

So what tax proposition are you for if any and why?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Sorry. Distracted again.

You can't be serious. They both have muffin tops. Barf. So back to the question. What new tax proposition are you going to vote for if any and why?

The keys are stuck together by a hard substance.

Probably from too much iron in your diet.

This thread proves several maxims, people in California have known for a long time:

- While the whole world is enthralled with California, most, in the state, couldn't care less about the attention.

- The above notwithstanding, there is no such thing as free bad publicity.

- People from other states devote far more time worrying about California than the other way around.

- California is the state everyone loves to hate but can't resist loving it.

- Most people who are obsessed with California can't find it on a US map.

- Most people who dislike California have never set foot or lived in the state or simply couldn't cut it there.

and my personal contribution:

- California should be renamed 'The Sour Grapes State'....

Having said that, I am sure that people in California would feel flattered with the attention if they coudl be bothered to give a darn about it....

We will be sending our kid to the German private school near here. It sponsored by the German government.

So how are you voting on these new tax propositions and why?

I was going to vote against both, but my boyfriend gave an impassioned defence of Prop 30. He's currently attending film school part-time at one of the community colleges for his personal enrichment. The courses at this college are considered to be incredible value for money by students and professionals, giving an education some think is on par with far more expensive options (UCLA, USC, NY Film School -- which is a total ripoff anyway). If Prop 30 doesn't pass, six classes will be cut from the film department at his school alone. I see the value in continuing to afford excellent educations to all.

I'm still not 100% convinced, but he's tempting me by offering to buy me a pair of gorgeous John Fluevog shoes if I do vote for Prop 30. Guess I really am a Dem, since my vote is so cheaply bought. laughing.gif But really, look at this heel!

"Film school" eh Maven? Just make sure you get a new pair of heels out of the deal and not one of his hand-me-downs. Odd though that he would be for proposition 30 and not 38 seeing now 38 not only generates more tax dollars, but it gives the schools more money and it also ensures that Sacramento can't pilfer said tax monies. The only people that get any benefit out of prop. 30 are the politicians.

Oh, those are very much new shoes. The pricetag makes me wince. >.< However, they're not nearly as spendy as his Aldens, and if Daddy wants to buy Baby new shoes, who am I to say no?

I'm taking the weekend to read the voter guide on all the props. I don't really know how I'll vote -- I know several people who are voting for both. I rarely vote for tax increases in CA, but I will if the argument is sufficiently convincing.

I use film school as an example, but it can easily be extrapolated further. Community colleges provide a stepping stone for many in California, and are a way to control tuition costs for students. Many go on to complete a four year degree within the UC/CSU system after transferring. If you can't do your math prerequisite so you can take biology, simply because every semester classes are oversubscribed, people get discouraged and drop out. These are often the sort of bright working class students for whom college seems out of reach. Community college makes post-secondary education a reality for them. Cut it and we're left with a state system that only the better-off can access. We all lose in that scenario.

I know f^ck-all about elementary and secondary education since the BF and I have not yet spawned, but I see a lot more waste there.

I hear ya. I'm all for community college just for the very reasons you stated. As far as those two tax props go, Brown & Co. including the teachers union are salivating over those tax dollars and it's funny watching them campaign against the other tax proposal that keeps the money out of their hands and puts it in the schools hands.
