It's so they can't be identified. The Palestinians did it for years and still do it for the fact the Mossad agents would constantly take pics, find out who they were and go after family and friends in order to find them.

Well I'm not a Muslim but I think Bad Daddy is probably right in that they don't want to be identified and sought out as targets. I'm not sure that covering their faces has anything to do with Islam. Though there is a fierce tribe in Libya similar to the Bedouins where the men are required to cover there faces and their women are required not to. When I first heard about it I was surprised to learn about the role reversal in the desert of that country.

it is a designed psychological reach around. most people have inhibition against violence within species. some aberrants are prone to it, and some professionals are disinhibited thru training. of those who are capable, most need to "identify" with their intended target in order to take the shot. if you deny them "identification" they hesitate. hesitation can be the difference between victory and death. subconsciously the average trigger man cannot identify without first seeing a face for reference, unless he has been disinhibited thru further training.

somehow i think with the less trained and less sophisticated jihadis it is more about being able to act in public openly, without later repercussion.

And that is what I was hinting at.

It's nothing new and just a "war face". The Indians have their own style too but it didn't seem to have worked well for them.
