Going through the I129-F and I see that there isn't much space for question 18 How we met. I'm wondering how much detail they want. I'm guessing . . met on Facebook and friendship progressed over next 4 years via telephone, email, letters and video culminating in him visiting me for a month when we made the decision to get engaged . . may not be enough. Any advice welcome, thank you! This is a stressy process and we haven't even got our I129-F in yet!

You've got it about right. Some members (cue Gary...) have written even less.

Met online mm/dd/yy, met face to face mm/dd/yy.

Two sentences should be adequate. On these dates we met together in city, country for so many days.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

i babble when i talk.. and when i write.. i was excited about my story.. so i just let it flow.. i just looked at my copy of I-129F.. it was about 3/4 page long.. i wrote how we met online.. then in person.. (this was part of my documentation.. since i sent papers to support this *skype, whatapp, boarding passes) .. then i wrote about our future plans and when i proposed.. so it was kind of details.. in my opinion.. more is better.. and 3/4 page was not that hard to write..

so you have can basically put as much as you want.. :)

That's all I did. I took the question to be mostly about when you met in person. If you have not, then you need to state how the relationship was established.

Shorter is probably better, but there is no rule. You can write a novel if you want to, so long as you can show that you met. My preference is to give the government exactly what they ask for, and no more. It keeps the megaminds at USCIS from making a mistake because they have too much information to process.
