Regarding transcripts for I 864

We are filing I-130 (petition for alien relative/spouse) of US citizen.

We are in need of inputs regarding the following.

i. The tax transcripts for the last three years are essential for the I-864 process.

Form 4506-T (Request for Transcript of Tax return) has multiple options for requesting transcripts. Which is the option to be chosen?

6a - Return trancript

6b - Account transcript

6c - Record of account

8 - Form W-2, Form 1099, Form 1098

ii. Also, can we assume that we dont have to fill form 4506 (Request for copy of tax return) ?

You need the 6a return transcript it has all the forms, W2's everything the immigration and embassy folk want to see. But why not go online and order you will have with a week or so.

That is the easiest way - assuming the person requesting the transcript is still at the same address as listed on their tax return.

An alternative to mailing or faxing Form 4506 is to visit your local IRS office in person. A trip to the office near me took less than 10 minutes to get all 3 years of transcripts.

It will still be necessary to include all W2s from last year with your form.

In would include Return Transcripts from all three years. Its free at the IRS website.

Not true. If u submit tax transcripts W2's are not necessary. The transcripts have everything in them.

Hope I'm not taking this off topic, but are the past three years really required? The instructions for the I-864 on the USCIS website say:

"You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent tax years."

Has anyone only submitted the most recent year and had no problems? Or is it better to play it safe and submit all three?

Nope not required many have just the current year. Thats all NVC wants to see what you are currently making. However be sure to have the past 3 years at the ready at interview. Remember CO has final say.

Via Phone we got the "Account transcript" mailed to our house

For form 4506-T, IRS office told us that we can tick all three and submit to the IRS office
