I'm sorry but you have to be pretty damn stupid to think that Obama was saying in actual context "we don't believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country." - It's obvious he's just saying that people are entitled to opportunity but not necessarily success...

However expect all right wing media outlets to be tossing this about out of context for the rest of the week....

ust when you thought that Obama couldn’t say anything more shocking than “you didn’t build that,” the president makes an extremely revealing statement about who decides the winners and losers in this country: “We don’t believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country.”

While this nation was built on freedom of opportunity, the point of view of those who oppose Constitutionally limited government is equality of results. That means in practice that if one works harder and tries to get ahead, even more will be taken from him or her by the government. Eventually, people give up trying to be successful, except through the corrupt means of influencing political decision-makers.

The idea that someone isn’t entitled to success, implicitly through the means of individual preferences expressed in a competitive market, is an anti-democratic and frankly perverse point of view that substitutes politics for economic reality. People should become successful based on hard work and initiative, and by offering goods and services in a market at prices customers are willing to pay.

The dispersion of economic power has made this country stable and prosperous, and morally has allowed people to make their own fortunes in life. American citizens need to realize fast that a rising political elite is serious about changing all that, because it is clear that not everyone fathoms what it means to live in a country where one does not determine one’s own success.
