Hi everyone,

I am a US citizen and I have filed for form I-130 for my husband. I recently received a letter saying that my application has been transferred to Lee Summit, MO. I don't know why they are transferring my application because I applied to the Vermont office. When I called to get information the automatic system said that I should not make any inquiries because this process takes 180 days!!! that’s 6 months in the USCIS. I thought the whole process was supposed to take 6 month. How long does it take for a US citizen to bring a spouse? How long does the whole process take? Please give me some information on form I-130.

Thank You.

For us it took 9 months and we had no refs. We spent almost 7 months at uscis because of the backlog California had then. For the I-130 you can check what the expected waiting will be on the uscis web page. If it says 6 months you can't really do anything but wait. Once you pass that 6 month mark you can have your senator look into your case for you. I would say that anywhere from 8 months to a year is quite normal for this process.
