Hello,

I'm in China and my fiancee has now joined me. Very happy.

(By the way, anyone who knows of the history of this process between me and my fiancee, it seems the reason for her hesitation and countless delays is she has acne all over her face now and did not want me to see it on her.)

My question is, how long should I plan on staying in China considering we need to get a copy of my fiancee's birth certificate, apply for a Chinese passport for her, get legally married to each other, plan out and then have the traditional Chinese weddieng ceremony and take the CR-1 PDF files to a printer to have physical copies printed?

Thanks,

I say ask yer lass, as she's the 'boots on the ground' person that should have been doing this research for you.

It's really 'geographically specific' to her hukuo city, on the paperwork and offices involved.

Hi unlockingsky,

Thanks for your reply.

I can only be here for 30 more days. Does that mean there is no way we can get married before I leave?

Or should we forget about the birth certificate and traditional Chinese wedding ceremony during this trip and only get legally married while I am here?

That way at least I could start the CR-1 visa process when I return home.

Any way to speed up the Notary Public beaurocratic hell of stupidity?

Hi Darnell,

Thanks for the info.

I will try to get it out of her. But again, it will be like trying to get a Panda Bear to play an electric Guitar.

Add to that a Panda Bear with acne, and I've got big problems in the 'motivation to act' department.

Take care,

you can discussing family politics over the phone. some family prefer face to face discussions.

Or should we forget about the birth certificate and traditional Chinese wedding ceremony during this trip and only get legally married while I am here?

you can request your wife to get the birth certificate in advance. as for the wedding, you can send her cash in advance to reserve things. i dont recommend skipping wedding parties because you would need evidence for embassy and it is a dishonor sense for some family.

Any way to speed up the Notary Public beaurocratic hell of stupidity?

unless she have some connection to the notary public, it would speed things up. otherwise, you are stuck with the hell processing time. if there is a mistake on end product, then time would just stack up.

study what documents you need and have her process it in advance if possible.

with the exception of the wedding party ,

you can get done in a week. you gots yer 'affadavit of marriage-ability' ? Start there, a US Embassy or Consulate in China can handle that for you. Once you have that in hand, follow that short list in yer other topic that I supplied to you.

Can't find it? Let me Know ;)

We got married to file for the CR-1, then my next trip to China 5 months later we had our traditional Chinese wedding. Remember the more people that attend the more money you will receive in the redbag. When my wife first asked me how many people she should invite, 200, 300, or 400 I said 200 was enough and then when I found out that they give you redbags which contain money I wish I had said 400. :bonk: If you plan on buying her wedding ring in China you could also have a photo taken at the store and keep the receipt so you can send this in as evidence when you send you I-130 information.

If your wife wants a big wedding I think it will take a while to plan and maybe should plan this on your next trip, it will be quite an experience and if you do not have any more vacation time you would accrue more into the next year.

Sure ! Give yer lass 2000 rmb, and YOU NOT GO IN WITH HER.

Have her use the money to pay the special expedite fee (bribe) .

If they see you, they will want more monies and they will slow things down as well.

Make certain she not use a telephone and call you , speaking English, or that will put a 'go-slow' mode switch to the ON position, as well.

STAY AWAY!

Hi unlockingsky,

Thanks so much for your detailed response, I really appreciate your help.

I did meet with her parents during my first trip to meet with my fiancee and they did okay our marriage at that time. But I don't know what other family politics might be involved or if anything has changed since then.

I will definitely be there for the Chinese wedding ceremony, whenever that will be, if during this trip or another one.

1) How would I request my wife to get the birth certificate in advance?

2) What about using visarite.com to get the "Affidavit of Single Status" for the "Certificate of Marriageability"; will that speed up the process and eliminate some of the beaurocratic nightmare?

Thanks again,

Hi Darnell,

Thanks for your reply, you've always been a great help to me. I do appreciate it very much.

1) What is your opinion on the fastest, easiest way to get the "Affidavit of Single Status" and the "Certificate of Marriageability" approved; using visarite.com, or going through the U.S. Consulate in China?

And yes, I do have the step-by-step 'short list' that you supplied to me in my other forum topic here, I have it in a Word document; thanks so much for that again, it is a real life saver.

Take care,

Hi dan_ling,

Thanks, I appreciate your reply and the info very much.

I think we'll plan on doing what you did, get married now to be able to file for the CR-1, then during my next trip to China have the traditional Chinese wedding and ceremony.

1) Does my fiancee need to have a copy of her birth certificate to be able to be legally married in China? Or can we get a copy of her birth certificate later on after we have been legally married?

Thanks again,

Hi Darnell,

Thanks again, the people in this forum are the best; you've surely changed many lives for the better. I'm sure many people appreciate that dearly and always will.

1) So are you referring to the Notary Public Office? Is this the place I should stay away from and have my fiancee handle?

Thanks,
