Waiting for NOA2 for my K1 visa @Vermont

Hi people

I am new to this forum and have been waiting anxiously for my k1 visa which was filed on 6 June 2012. I recived NOA1 on 8 June 2012 and have been waiting for the NOA2 ever since. My application went to the Vermont Service center which i think is a pretty slow center. I saw the immigration website today and it says that as on 31 august 2012 they r doing March 5 2012 applications. Does anybody has an idea that how long they usually take for the approvals.. Did anybody got an approval who filed for their applications in April or May 2012. Is there anyway to expediate the case as we were planning for our marriage in December 2012 but now i think there is no way we will be together. Kindly let me know what can i expect from Vermont service center. Also california seems to be processing really fast. Can they transfer my application to that place. is there any way to do that. Sorry if i seem ignorant.

VSC is running 6.5 months or more at the moment, so you are looking roughly at January-ish. You cannot move your petition to CSC, sometimes Vermont will send some on when they are overwhelmed, but that is under their control. There is really nothing you can do but wait.

If you complete your timeline, you can get a rough estimate of when you might get approval.

I'm sorry to say but all you can do is wait!

And as for how fast the different offices work....that changes all the time. When I was going through my process California was taking forever!

Its taking us forever for all this and we were planning a wedding for us in december. I can not even ask my fiancee to come over to meet me because we will be short of funds at a later stage. Also i have been assured a job transfer to the city where my fiancee lives however if my company finds another person to fill up that position before me i am screwed.. I really dont know whats happening with vermont service center.. Does writing to the local senator will help us..It has been a long patient wait for 5 months (right now its 4) but a lot of things have been planned by us considering the 5 month mark..Now they dont seem to be doing all that really quick....

Getting a senator involved will not help you. USCIS is not answerable to them. In reality, VSC does not concern themselves with plans that you make. As you will be advised here, and also on the USCIS website, you should never plan for your wedding date itself, or give up your job or living arrangements, until you have the visa is your hands, there are simply too many variables that can hold the process up or slow it down. You can be held up at NVC in AP, and you can also be held up after the interview for AP. (additional processing) Some countries are more likely to be put in AP than others as well.

You may get your visa by January, but realize that you still have the medical, and the interview to pass as well, which takes time.

Try more like 7 to 8 months. Feb Filer here and still waiting....... Join the club and drink a cold one. You might get approved by Dec maybe Jan if you are lucy and do not get RFE..... Relax and enjoy the wait like the rest of us.....

You won't be able to work right away either, once you arrive and marry. You have to file for AOS to get work authority.

Welcome to the forum.

You will be able to get a forum estimate of your petition approval dates.

The USCIS usually does not consider "Impending marriage" as an acceptable expedite criteria. Here is the link to the criteria:

It is not likely that you can request that your visa petition be transferred to another service center for expedience. If it were possible, your petition would then likely be placed at the start of that center's processing queue (i.e., the bottom of the pile).

The general forum recommendation is to NOT make any formal wedding dates/plans/deposits/reservations until you have the approved visa in your passport, in your hand! There are far too many variables during the process that may delay/impede the process. It is those same variables that make time estimates very difficult to accurately predict.

Excellent. Well, all there is to do now is wait, I'm sorry to say. Have a look at what paperwork and things you need for the interview, so at least when that time rolls around you will be ready. Hang in there, I was a K1 myself, and I know how hard the wait can be.
