We're in the planning stages of going to get Rovie. I have been flying Korean Air to and from Cebu and just love them. BUT......in looking at airfare for the first of December, there is a huge difference between Korean and Delta. Flying Delta in the states, IMHO, sucks. I avoid them when ever I can for domestic travel. So can someone tell me how they are on the overseas routes? Anyone with experience with both?

I have taken two trips to Manila this year to see my fiancee. The first one was on Cathay Pacific and the second on Delta. Cathay is definitely in my opinion superior in service and quality over Delta, but there were no real issues for me on Delta. I flew coach on both trips, and the limited ammenities in coach were very similar actually, it's just minor things that were noticed. Coincidentally on the leg from Manila to Tokyo on the return on Delta, there were no personal tv monitors in coach, only the one big screen tv at the front of each section along with the drop down small monitors about every 3rd row. Someone asked about this to one of the flight attendants and was told that there were only 2 - 747's in Delta's fleet that had not been upgraded with the personal entertainment centers etc and this just happened to be one of them. Luckily I had to change planes in Tokyo and got one of the refurbished or upgraded 747's for the long haul back to the states. I don't think you will have any issues with Delta IMO but I don't know what class you are flying and I can only speak from my experience.

I fly coach....Korean has monitors and loads of movies on their planes. Good food, no charge, etc. lots of leg room to. Both delta and Korean are mileage partners with Alaska Air, so it needs to be one of them. Gotta get that mileage!

Thanks

Ya both of my tickets were award trips from CC usage mostly in my business. So the first one I was able to book on any airline, but the second was from my Delta skymiles CC. I didn't notice any difference between Cathay and Delta on legroom, the movies, games, tv, entertainment selection was about equal on both. Just seemed Cathay was somewhat nicer but I wouldn't not fly either one. Going back probably in December or January and looks like Delta again cause of those accumulated miles LOL. Good luck to you.

There's a saying that you get what you pay for, and this pretty much fits Delta from my experience. The last time we went to the Philippines, I chose Delta for the same reason, price. I must say as a whole, I have never experienced such rude flight attendants, ever! It was not just on one leg either, it was on all of them, the only thing that changed was the level of rudeness. Now with that being said, would I ever fly with them again? If the price is right I would. If you want an enjoyable flight to and from, don't fly Delta. If you want more money to spend once there, fly Delta. I know other people have had more enjoyable flights with Delta, but that was my experience.

I've flew in May 2002 and Dec 2010 using Korean Air and it was a good experience (except the 3 hours or more layover in Seoul). It's definitely cheaper than Philippine Airline especially during the holidays. I've only flew with Delta few times within the US and of course too many flight delays and missing luggage later.

If you don't mind paying at least $100 more, just take PAL saves her the trouble of connecting flights unless she's comfortable with it.

Safe flight and welcome to US soon!

Layovers......yea....12 hours today sitting in Seoul.......

But while sitting here, I went to the korean air site. Booking there I can beat anything on line by $600, so only a couple hundred more than Delta andi just can't stand to fly delta.

Thanks everybody for your input!

All the U.S. airlines stink compared to the Asian airlines like Korean, Singapore, etc. The U.S. plane interiors don't have individual TV's (usually), don't have plug-ins for your electrical devices. In general the interior and the service is not up to the standard of the Asian airlines. However their redeeming feature is that they are much cheaper. So it's a choice of priorities. I always go for the cheap flight provided that the airline safety record and the plane safety record is ok. So I generally choose the U.S. airlines.

Got back yesterday from Cebu on KAL. Top notch...P.S. No faster way to get to Cebu from Atlanta than KAL even with the 3-4 hour stop in Korea.

I flew over from Seoul with a guy from Atlanta. He said the same about the time frame. I do agree its top notch. Best airline I've ever flown.

I have used Delta twice going back and forth to Philippines and Korean air 3x. With that being said, i love korean air way better. I love their food, very nice service and comfy seats. Korean air's flight attendants look more professional and more helpful than Delta. At Korean, they helped me put my luggage at the cabin while delta, never did. Go for Korean, its cheaper! and buy tickets on midnight, you'll see changes esp when its mon mignight going to tues. good luck!

I've always been a Delta guy since I live in Atlanta. I'm flying my first trip to the Philippines next month and booked with Delta - mainly due to my sky miles account. But, after reading this thread, I think I'll give KAL a try when I go back next year. I checked and they are a sky miles partner with Delta, so ill still earn miles.

I had good experiences with Korean air. I would fly them again. I never did delta overseas but they wouldn't be my first choice.
