I jsut got back from the Philippines. They are the 12th most populous nation on earth and they are one of the top nations in fertility rates, or in other words folks are having way too many babies.

Now if you have ever been there you will know two things. Some of the nicest people in the world, but it is also a way way over crowded landlocked 3rd world country, with massive poverty. You can see massive slums in which slum dwellers are having literally 10 children apeice.

So the Philippine government gets it's act together and wants to launch a massive program to make birth control and reproductive education available to the masses. it has been held up for two years.

Want to guess why ?? The Catholic church is fighting it and many of the politicians are scared to vote for it because the church is so powerful there.

So in the Church mind 10 starving children are not as unethical as a condom.

I am sorry but I have left the Philippines thinking the Catholic church is one of the great evils of our society.

Sadly I am starting to agree more and more everyday. I honestly now feel the major relgions do more harm in the world than good. Certainly without a doubt the Catholic church hurts more than it helps in poor countries.

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. Landlocked lol. That is what 19 hours do flying will do to your brain. I was trying to say. They don't have enough land for their population

They don't have enough land for their population

Bullshit. There is lots of land, it is just owned by a few non-Filipino families, that have managed to keep their large land holdings, despite land reform for Filipinos. The land reform was implemented, and along with inheritance rules, broke up the large family owned farms among various family members, that in turn squandered their birthrights, selling them for booze and whores, or turning them over to land managers, that ran the farms into the ground. In just a single generation, the Aquino's have destroyed that country, while making a fortune for Cory's relatives.

But that has nothing to do with the Fact the Catholic church does not want the people to have contraception.

I will say your onto something. My wife said most of the expensive private schools had Chinese students.

It also appeared the South Koreans were doing pretty good. I went to a very nice resort that was full of Koreans.

I just spent two weeks there. Maybe all that land is somewhere other than where I was, but there was not a sq in vacant in any direction in the Parts of Cebu i saw. The place is very over populated.

What do you mean by vacant? You need to get out of the cities, and into the countryside. You'll find those large land holdings behind 3 meter high fences, patrolled by men with shotguns.

You do realize you will probably be attending Catholic mass on a regular basis once your date arrives in the US, and your house will be covered with religious artifacts?

My date and I have been married for over a year now and yes she does drag me to mass and we do have the statue of the St. Nino in our house. Small price to keep her happy don't you think. I look at it as, she would go to a GA Football game with me just to keep me happy, I can go to mass just to keep her happy.

That does not mean I can't sit there and think, "these people are tripping on acid" the whole time.
