Did you guys have problem adding your fiancé in your lease agreement? I’m renting an apartment my manager is giving me hard time.

I’ve been calling her for like a month and half now. But she never calls me back until finally she did last Mon...I told her that my fiancé is arriving this sat. She like telling that is too soon for her to add him on my lease. I was so pissed because it took her about almost 2months and now she's acting that it's my fault

To begin with last Feb I told the previews manager about this immigration process that I’m planning to get married this year.(the new manager she just start last may’!2)

Now she’s telling me that I have ONLY 14days then I have to provide my fiancé SSS# and ID...how can I do that if immigration takes 2weeks to put my fiancé in the system to apply for SSS#.

How long usually takes for SSN to put a new immigrant in the system?

Anyways did you guys had any problem like this lol

Thanks

**Moved from K1 to Moving here and your new life in America. Post is not related to a K1 process.

It takes about 2 weeks for them to have the information updated. Sometimes is sooner and some other times is beyond two weeks.

So, I suppose you'll have to see what happens when he arrives and goes to the SS Office for his number.

On a different note, you may want to consult with a Real State company or something, because we were able to get me into our lease even before I came into the country on my K1, and I didn't have a SS#. They only made sure I had a valid B2 visa. But, perhaps, that's something that can be done in our County and with whatever real state rules they have... or maybe is up to the discretion of the rental office. blush.gif

Relax. Get her over here first. I doubt if any rental agency wants a person who will be responsible for a lease when they do not live in the country ( unless your a rock star). Once here, get her social, get married and then go to them and ask them to put her on the lease. And you have every right to do this BTW. Them telling you how many days you have to get a social is just BS. They have no clue about this process. Do not listen to them about this.

i agree

she told me that they want to do a criminal background thats we need to follow the lease agreement rules (BS lol)

i mean just common sense that he went to immigration process obviously the US government is more responsible by checking his criminal background before issuing his visa :bonk:

i bet she's just a hater...lol

thanks god i already speak with her supervisor...his willing to help :innocent:

I guess I was fortunate in that regard. And I'm sure it helps that I've lived in the same place for five years and I'm not going through a rental agency place, too. I just renewed the lease on my place and it was just a matter of writing in my fiancé's name with a note that he'll arrive in a couple of months. That's it, no SSN#. Same with renter's insurance (Allstate). My agent just said once we're married, they'll need his name and date of birth to add him to my existing policy.

I guess it all depends on the apartment management company. I was able to add my wife to the apartment lease, and they required a credit check. She did not have a SSN because she had just arrived in the US, and I explained it to them. The management folks just ended up using my SSN on her forms to run the credit check and she was approved.

I applied for an SSN the same day I arrived in US. I got the card 2 weeks later. As for the lease, I was never added to the lease. We have a joint checking account and we use the cleared checks from the apartment rent as one of our financial evidence.

I had trouble with this too... We rent from a leasing company which owns the whole building, and my husband has been living here for over 2 years, and has always been a good tenant.

We wrote them an email asking for me to be added on the lease (two tenants is always better than one if one stops paying, right?) and their answer was that they would add me as soon as we got rid of our washing machine (nothing in my lease says I cannot have one). No criminal background, no credit report, all they care is about blackmailing me because of my almost silent, $1500 washing machine for some strange reason.

Obviously my husband replied saying that the washing machine is leaving with us when we move out of their stupid flat as soon as the lease is up! I'm still in disbelief they said this. Luckily I was able to add him to my Spanish bank account and we have lots of other proof, so maybe not being added to the lease was a blessing in disguise seeing how professional my landlords are.

First, if you're pursuing this just to have some good evidence of your relationship for AOS, then save yourself the trouble and don't worry that much about adding him. I moved into my apartment about a week and a half before my now husband arrived. I asked after he arrived about getting him on the lease agreement, but it required a credit check, and he of course had no credit in this country at the time. I finally got him added over a year later, when he had built up some credit. But really, you can create evidence of your relationship and mingling of finances in many other ways. A lease is not make-or-break. Save yourself the hassle and let it go.

But it sounds like the leasing office at least wants to know his identity/information for their files. I did have to provide this for my apartment once he moved in, but since he didn't have a license or anything they just made a copy of his passport. They'll just have to accept that, since you don't have any other options. You can go back with his license and SSN once he has them and the office can just update the file. We did this and had no problems. But this was just for their records of who was living in the apartment. As I said, we didn't add him to the actual signed lease agreement until many months later.

I'm the USC petitioner.

 I don't know where the two week wait comes from for the SSN, we went the day after she got here and had her SS card 6 days later. Opened up joint checking and savings accounts 6 days after she got here and I added her to my medical insurance the first week.

Because having it done sooner than that, seems to be the exception to the rule. The norm is that by week #2, the systems should already have your information. Everyone is welcome to try a couple of days after their arrival, but they should know there's a great chance they'll have to come back because the systems don't have their information yet.
