Okay so apart from the N12,000, she had to pay another N16,500 for Pneumococcal and Influenza which according to the list below is not appropriate for someone in her age group (24 years old) or even required for K1.

She's going to email me the bill later and then I will send an email to the Doctor to ask why?

Unfortunately Gowan, I have seen this first hand and found it to be true myself. I can't tell you have perturbed I am with the "tipping" and no one will lift a finger to do anything, even when you are paying for using their company services. My husband tipped for three months trying to get his phone records. I finally had to tell him to stop doing that and that he was just being rude. Here we call that fraud and this is why.... blah, blah, blah...when he realized how I was seeing this, he went into the office and told them just like I had stated it to him. He got his records the following week and he did not tip again.

They could have taken advantage of your wife also because she was female. Unfortunately, that still happens in America in many situations, especially equal opportunity employment!

I'm just very glad she is finished with it all but interview. Now forward to the good part. Have you been looking at airline tickets to get her home?

You see that's the thing, if it's a run of the mill Nigerian outfit I may be understanding and go along with the "Na Naija We Dey" attitude but this is a outfit vetted and authorized by the State Department of the United States of America. At the end of the day after she's here (my Mama didn't raise no fool), I intend to write to the clinic and copy the embassy. When I saw on the embassy website that they only allow two clinics to perform medical examinations in the whole country I suspected that all the US did was just create a money grab for these clinics (I know my people). I also take it a littel personal because I work in a hospital here and you don't just vaccinate people undeservingly. We already have all the vaccinations per the Department of Health requirements and should not have needed absolutely nothing else unless there was an infection that needed treatment.

But I'm going to take your advice and focus on the positive stuff and this part is done. I have been looking at flights. The choices are Turkey Airlines/Emirates/Qatar for approxiamtely $1,400 but they fly you first into middle east which makes total flight time longer. United and Delta are hovering around $2k.

The fact that she might be here in my arms before the end of this month is delightful to me and that we might get to plan and celebrate Christmas and New Years here together.

Thanks for the info. My spouse will be doing her own medical examination on Monday at Children's practice. I will make sure she has enough money. It is quite a shame that they designated only two clinics for medication examination. What a shame. Just forget it and focus on the interview. When your spouse join you, it will be a thing of the past.

THis is the kind of thing I like to harass about! Although you I agree focus on the positive of being united soon, I would still do as you plan! and I will also do the same if my fiance is asked to do the same thing. Im going to tell him ahead of time to tell them he is not getting the unnecessary vaccines. If they feel like they may lose their contract they will start respecting themselves and stop taking advantage of the blessing they have been award of being one of the only clinics allowed to do the medical exams for immigration matters.

Here is the required list of shots for immigrant per DOS website, though K1 are not required to have any shots until they AOS stateside.

My Fiancee is 24 years old and based on this chart, she should only have to take TDAP, MMR and Varicella.

Based on readings from here, we decided to get the shots anyways so as to not give the CO any excuse.

So the records from University College Hospital Ibadan clearly shows that she got the shots.

So what is the N16,500 for? They said Vac on the receipt, what vacs? Oh, this is on top of the N12,000 for the examinations.

I'm going to follow up later but focusing on other stuff and wanted to just share this. If you don't have your shots you might just let them give it to you at Childrens since they'll charge for it anyways.

My husband did his medicals on monday, risking leaving work and getting there as early as 7am only to be told he had to pay additional money for vaccines he already took for his previous K1 visa.

I am in the medical field too, and I know these vaccines last for a few number of years. Yes, just like was already pointed out, we are not going to give a reason for the CO to deny us, hence the reason he went ahead to pay the money for vaccines he took already. Who takes MMR every 2yrs????

He went to Lagos this morning to go pick up the result and they told he it has to be after 4pm. Information he was not told over the phone. He was furious and demanded to speak with the Dr. The Dr came out and said "Sir were you told over the phone pick up was after 4pm?" He said no sir, I came from Ibadan this morning, left work becuase the lady told me over the phone the result was ready for pick up, but was never informed of the time. The Dr made the lady leave what she was doing and they gave him his result.

I said na wa, when will all these waste end? If not God on his side he would have returned to Ibadan empty handed.

Cannot wait for all these heartaches to be over. Lord have mercy!

1Love, I'll let you all know. I just want my Fiancee to be done with the process first before I rattle their cage. I've designed the website already but won't make it live until then. They can't play with peoples lives liek that all because of money. So my poo rFiancee now has potentially double dosage of vaccinations within two months.

Unfortunately I blame our government for only allowing two shops to do these medical tests and not following up on the process/procedure. I've said it before on another thread and I was shouted down but the embassy should specify the fees for each test/vaccination.

They probably dont follow up because nobody makes an issue out of it. Everyone is so desperate with the whole process that they accept whatever nonsense they get in the way. Im about to call them and let them know that a formal group has been formed, that plans on filing complaints about the practice of charging and dosing unnecessarily on people.

Okay so I found additional details after asking a Doctor at work and to eb fair to all I want to share those findings also. But this is still penidng confirmation by Childrens Practise of eaxctly what vaccination they gave my Fiancee.

For MMR, there is supposed to be two dosage, at a minimum of 28 days interval, so one can argue that oen shot was for the 2nd dose of MMR:

"6. Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccination

• Adults born before 1957 generally are considered immune to measles and mumps. All adults born in 1957 or later should have documentation of 1 or more doses of MMR vaccine unless they have a medical contraindication to the vaccine, laboratory evidence of immunity to each of the three diseases, or documentation of provider-diagnosed measles or mumps disease. For rubella, documentation of provider-diagnosed disease is not considered acceptable evidence of immunity.
• Measles component: A second dose of MMR vaccine, administered a minimum of 28 days after the first dose, is recommended for adults who 1) have been recently exposed to measles or are in an outbreak setting; 2) are students in postsecondary educational institutions; 3) work in a healthcare facility; or 4) plan to travel internationally. Persons who received inactivated (killed) measles vaccine or measles vaccine of unknown type during 1963–1967 should be revaccinated with 2 doses of MMR vaccine.
• Mumps component: A second dose of MMR vaccine, administered a minimum of 28 days after the first dose, is recommended for adults who 1) live in a community experiencing a mumps outbreak and are in an affected age group; 2) are students in postsecondary educational institutions; 3) work in a healthcare facility; or 4) plan to travel internationally. Persons vaccinated before 1979 with either killed mumps vaccine or mumps vaccine of unknown type who are at high risk for mumps infection (e.g. persons who are working in a healthcare facility) should be revaccinated with 2 doses of MMR vaccine.
• Rubella component: For women of childbearing age, regardless of birth year, rubella immunity should be determined. If there is no evidence of immunity, women who are not pregnant should be vaccinated. Pregnant women who do not have evidence of immunity should receive MMR vaccine upon completion or termination of pregnancy and before discharge from the healthcare facility.
• Healthcare personnel born before 1957: For unvaccinated healthcare personnel born before 1957 who lack laboratory evidence of measles, mumps, and/or rubella immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease, healthcare facilities should 1) consider routinely vaccinating personnel with 2 doses of MMR vaccine at the appropriate interval (for measles and mumps) and 1 dose of MMR vaccine (for rubella), and 2) recommend 2 doses of MMR vaccine at the appropriate interval during an outbreak of measles or mumps, and 1 dose during an outbreak of rubella. Complete information about evidence of immunity is available at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/provisional/default.htm."

Same for Varicella:

"3. Varicella vaccination

• All adults without evidence of immunity to varicella should receive 2 doses of single-antigen varicella vaccine if not previously vaccinated or a second dose if they have received only 1 dose, unless they have a medical contraindication. Special consideration should be given to those who 1) have close contact with persons at high risk for severe disease (e.g., healthcare personnel and family contacts of persons with immunocompromising conditions) or 2) are at high risk for exposure or transmission (e.g., teachers; child-care employees; residents and staff members of institutional settings, including correctional institutions; college students; military personnel; adolescents and adults living in households with children; nonpregnant women of childbearing age; and international travelers).
• Evidence of immunity to varicella in adults includes any of the following: 1) documentation of 2 doses of varicella vaccine at least 4 weeks apart; 2) U.S.-born before 1980 (although for healthcare personnel and pregnant women, birth before 1980 should not be considered evidence of immunity); 3) history of varicella based on diagnosis or verification of varicella by a healthcare provider (for a patient reporting a history of or having an atypical case, a mild case, or both, healthcare providers should seek either an epidemiologic link with a typical varicella case or to a laboratory-confirmed case or evidence of laboratory confirmation, if it was performed at the time of acute disease); 4) history of herpes zoster based on diagnosis or verification of herpes zoster by a healthcare provider; or 5) laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease.
• Pregnant women should be assessed for evidence of varicella immunity. Women who do not have evidence of immunity should receive the first dose of varicella vaccine upon completion or termination of pregnancy and before discharge from the healthcare facility. The second dose should be administered 4–8 weeks after the first dose."

I can't argue with their pricing (we paid only N10K in Ibadan for all three previous dosages while they charged N16,500 for only two dosages) since we did have options.

So I'll swallow this lump (pun not intended) because it seems that as careful as I was, I did not study the vaccination requirements in detail.

I will still require documentation of the actual vaccinations given from the clinic.

I just wanted to give feedback and to give others coming after us somethings to consider.

Femi, my husband had all done at Children's in one day. 23,000 total. Then the doctor asked him to come back in two days later to check his heart (do and EKG). He said this was just preventative because my hubby is over 40, had slightly high blood pressure and it may come up at interview. So he had it done as a preventative. The additional test was 10,000. All was done within two days (he went early on a Tuesday morning and received his papers on Thursday afternoon for Embassy and POE).

The secetary explained to us to write our name on the back of our 2 passphotos and I went to the bank to pay 12,000 naira at zenith bank 5 minutes walk, when I got back to the clinic they called me for blood test after that I went to see the doctor upstairs. When the doctor test me he discovered that my blood pressure was rise a little he said I need to do E C G test and he gave me 2 small paper he wrote on one to pay 16,500 for 3 type injection and the 2nd one to pay 10,000 naira for the ECG. On Tuesday they will retest my blood pressure. So this weekend I will be resting. Thank God everything went fine and everybody will have to come on next Tuesday for our medical results ,I give God all the glory and I want to say very big thanks to my dearly wife CHIEF MRS ABIKE for all the support she gave me as a good and responsible wife"

Folks, what is the deal with the High Blood Pressure test as part of the exam? I thought the were only looking for contagious diseases?
