Sen. Dianne Feinstein wants investigation of California gas prices

CHRISTOPHER WEBER, Associated Press

Updated 7:19 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2012

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein has called for a federal investigation into gas prices in California because she doesn't think they are related to supply and demand.

Californians are paying an average of $4.668 a gallon, the highest price in the nation. Many motorists are paying over $5.

Feinstein says that paying hundreds of dollars every time you fill your tank is unthinkable. For the second time in the last few months, the California Democrat has sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking for an immediate probe.

She also asked in August when gas was 45 cents cheaper.

Gov. Jerry Brown over the weekend ordered state smog regulators to allow winter-blend gas to be sold three weeks early in the state.

Experts are predicting prices will climb to $4.85 before coming down.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The workforce is the smallest it has been since Obama took office.

Yes, and it will continue to shrink as it has for over more than a decade now after peaking in the late 90's. It's what happens when the 55+ crowd grows larger (having jumped up 5% of total population) while the share of prime working age population of those 35-44 years old has dropped some 4%. As the baby boomers age towards retirement, this imbalance will grow and the labor force participation rate will continue to decline. It's a trend that's been a long time coming.

If you're not in support of investing in alternative energy, you're part of the problem. And by support, I mean which candidates locally and nationally that have or will vote for based on their views on energy.

If you're not demanding your congressman/woman to end all fossil fuel subsidies, you're part of the problem.

If you insist on driving a large vehicle when a smaller, more efficient vehicle would do, you're part of the problem.

If you're not carpooling to work when possible, you're part of the problem.

The days of abundant, cheap oil are over.

A great reason to ride my 1963 Lambretta motor scooter to work.

Blue skies, sunshine, 79 degrees, and 140 miles to the gallon!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I almost feel bad for Californians being hit with those high gas prices.

I thought that if you had your employer paying for your travel, like if you were going on trips paid for with airmiles gained from travelling on business, you were somehow not actually winning at life. Is using your employer's credit card for your gas different?
