i never said i agreed with the teacher's response. from the article it looks like they are looking into the appropriate punishment for the teacher. for her father to contact fox news and posit his daughter as a victim of some sort, however, is counterproductive if he wants his daughter raised capable of defending her own political affiliations and rights of free speech.

um, his daughter IS the victim. the teacher was bullying her.

but she is the victim of one teacher's actions. this isn't rocket science. that particular teacher overstepped their boundaries. why contact the media? for political spin. period.

if my kid wear's a shirt to school that says "obama 2012" and the teacher calls him a leech on society or a taker - isn't my beef with the teacher? is this a reason to call up msnbc?

of course it isn't. an isolated incident of an adult not knowing when to allow a child to voice their political opinion and keep their own trap shut.

so now you acknowledge she is the victim. earlier she wasn't.

it says in the article the girl didn't remove the shirt and didn't respond to the teacher. doesn't sound like the girl felt victimized at all.

however her father posited her as a victim to the media - for the purposes of politically spinning an isolated incident..obviously.

this is freaking hilarious.

“The comments were of a political nature, and also of a personal nature,” he told the newspaper. “We are looking into the comments, and the conduct of the teacher.”

The shirt the girl is wearing is of a political nature..so I would expect to receive a response of a political nature if i wear a political shirt.

If I were her dad, I'd tell her she isn't mature enough to wear a political tshirt to school. She doesn't have the backbone to represent her views without getting offended when others disagree.

So the high school teacher was in the right, especially when she disrupted the class by leaving and getting other teachers and bringing them in said classroom while pointing the girl out.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

nope. not at all. and if it's true that the teacher actually said "this is a democratic school" i would question how the hell such ignorance ever got hired in the first place.

i'm sure every boy in the classroom wanted her to remove the shirt too

i once had a history teacher call me a satanist cause i was wearing a marilyn manson shirt (be nice this was like 1996), in front of the whole class. if he would have demanded i remove the shirt on top of his judgement call - i would have stripped down in a heartbeat just to put him in his place and see the color drain from his face when he realized what he'd asked of a student.

How is Obama at fault for this woman's stupidity and overreaction?

Yeah I agree, while there is much to blame Obama for..... I doubt he would find this acceptable.

Truth is, there are a lot of teachers who can begin to abuse the authority they have and the natural inclination is to interject race, politics, social commentary way beyond what the subject matter requires.

Even Mind mannered Danno has had to confront the teacher, if no one does they become more embolden.

On the other hand, children should not be treated as fine china, the first step should be to prepare your child to intellectually (and physically) defend them self and their views.

Trust me, if you prepare them and they have the right temperament, they will dominate the teacher or professor.

(I get reports daily)

Teen returns to school after Romney T-shirt flap

Associated Press – 5 hrs ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 16-year-old high school sophomore who says she was ridiculed by her geometry teacher for wearing a Mitt Romney T-shirt returned to school Tuesday following a rally by cheering supporters. The teacher has also written a letter of apology that was read aloud to students.

Samantha Pawlucy hadn't been back to Charles Carroll High School in the city's Port Richmond section since last week. That's when she and her family say she was mocked by her teacher for wearing the shirt supporting the Republican presidential candidate. She said the teacher questioned why she was wearing the shirt and called others in to the room to laugh at her.

Pawlucy, whose family had expressed concern for her safety, returned Tuesday after a rally that featured supporters singing the national anthem and reading the First Amendment — as well as shouts of supporters calling "Go, Sam!" and "You're great, Sam!"

The school's principal read students the letter of apology from geometry teacher Lynette Gaymon on Tuesday.

"I'm very sorry for all the chaos and negative attention that has surrounded the school in the past couple of weeks," she wrote. "What I meant as a light and humorous remark during class has developed into a huge conflict between students, faculty, parents and neighbors. My words were never meant to belittle Ms. Pawlucy, or cause any harm, and I truly regret that we have come to this point."

Pawlucy wore the pink "Romney/Ryan" shirt to "dress-down" day on Sept. 28. She said that during class, Gaymon pointed out the shirt, questioned why she was wearing it and told her to leave the classroom. Gaymon, Pawlucy said, said it was a "Democratic" school and compared it to wearing a "KKK" shirt.

Her father, Richard Pawlucy, said the family met with Democratic Mayor Michael Nutter on Sunday night to discuss a resolution. The teacher has apologized and the district's superintendent William Hite Jr. has called the ordeal a "teachable moment."

Hite has said he would work with Nutter and the teacher's union to move "towards a conversation that brings together diverse beliefs, inspires understanding, and heals."

sounds like everything worked out..

No reprimands for the teacher including administrative leave. Another pass for a racist who made racist remarks. Looking at the history of that city's mayor along with the school superintendent it's no surprise.
