Packet 3 received in the US?

Hi all, long time no post...

I have been going through the I-129F/K1 process with my Fiance, we started the process in the middle of June this year. A few weeks ago I received the NOA 2 and then a letter from the NVC. Today, I received a letter from the American Consulate General stating the fiance visa case is now ready for processing. There are instructions on the form for taking care of ASC appointment, Consular interview and Medical appointment.

My fiance has not received this same letter yet in Mexico. Since I have this letter, are we safe to proceed anyway as far as scheduling and paying for ASC and the Interview in Juarez? I have read a few cases here of people simply printing or sending the letter received in the US and using that.

I have searched and found various new and old posts but the comfort of hearing from someone who has done this would be appreciated. We are anxious to get moving forward as quickly as possible here :)

Confirmation on the logical steps we need to go through would help too. My understanding is:

Fill out DS-260

Get ASC appointment, wherever available

Schedule interviews in Juarez

Travel to Juarez and over 1-3 days, get medical exam and interview.

If approved, visa will be mailed via DHL

Does this sound right?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

Yes, you are safe to proceed and make the appointment. Those two letters actually would only be sent to you (or so it was in our case).

The letter you have read about is the third, this one is the invitation letter. It is simply confirming your appointment. Some people get it in time, some people don't. I don't think we will :( , all that means is that you have to ask for a duplicate in Juarez when you're there BEFORE your medical and interview.

Don't forget to fill our the DS-156 and DS-156k! These you print out copies of and take them with you to your interview.

(Very simple, it's mostly general personal info - DON'T SIGN THEM, that will be done in front of the consulate official in Juarez.)

XO

Actually I believe you sign the 156 if you fill it out for your Fiancee but only the part that states who filled it out. And the 156k i think you sign as well. The Fiancee should not sign Anything until the day she interviews at the consulate and the officer tells her to.

Yes, that letter from CDJ, known as the invitation letter, is the only thing they send. You can email a scanned copy or snail mail a copy of the letter you received in the US for your fiancee to use when she goes to Juarez.

Here is how it works for Juarez:

You need to get your CDJ case #, invoice # and beneficiary ID # from the NVC before you can fill out the DS-260 by calling 603-334-0700

Juarez will send the USC and the beneficiary in Mexico a letter. Sometimes the letter does not reach the person in Mexico because of the crappy mail system there. If the only one that receives it is the USC, it can be mailed or scanned and emailed and printed out by the beneficiary in Mexico. It does not have to be the original.

The letter you receive points you to the sites where the instructions, forms and place to schedule your appointment and interview is. The letter is the only 'packet' you will receive. You should go to the links(which I am posting below) listed in the letter. The letter will be needed by the K-1 applicant at their ASC, medical and interview in Juarez, along with the confirmation page from the DS-260.

Here are the forms: http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/fianceforms.html , instructions (very important to follow and they explain a lot): http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ciudadjuarez/231771/PDFs/packetk1may.pdf ,schedule ASC: http://mexico.usvisa-info.com , and CDJ info: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Mexico&cty=Juarez

While waiting, you can read through the reviews to see how the procedure works and what documents were needed by others applying for a K-1: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Mexico&cty=&dfilter=5

I stand corrected. Thanks.

You were correct. You make duplicate copies of the DS-156 and DO NOT SIGN THEM. It states this in the instructions pdf from the Juarez site I linked to above. You must sign the forms in front of the officers at the consulate when they ask you to sign them.

The USC filling out the forms for the beneficiary is a different thing. The beneficiary still does not sign until told to do so at the consulate. The forms are all about and for the beneficiary. Most just fill them out themselves.
