Hi everyone!! Hubby and I are very excited as our interview is coming and the plan is for him to travel home with me!

My husband wants to bring some food stuff from Nigeria to the USA but I am not sure if there are any restrictions for importing stuff to the USA. For those who know what is allowed in I would appreciate your insight as to what kind of veggies or foodstuff they allow or ones you know that they do not, so, we can prevent any holdups.

Thanks everyone!! Good Luck for everyone having October interviews coming up!! It's getting exciting!!

I wouldn't do it if I were you.

The best way to handle this is to educate yourselves before you fly to the US. Here is a link to US customs regulations which will give you the definitive answer to your question. My link

Good luck with your interview! All the best.

Yes, I agree! Thanks so much for the link to the information I need. I will definitely check it out!! Everyone else just seems to want to tell me no, but I didn't ask if I should or not. I asked what was allowed or not.

Sorry ginie didn't mean to offend you. I didn't want any problems for you and your hubbie with his first visit.

As a general rule, condiments, vinegars, oils, packaged spices, honey, coffee and tea are admissible. Congrats on your upcoming approve visa and welcome to america. We are together in this process. So happy for you...

You didn't offend me dear, I think you got me wrong. I was the one that told the hubby I didn't think you could, as I have already seen them shuffling people to the "glass room" where they unpack your stuff and go through it all. I just wanted to know if they allowed any of the items my husband wanted to bring. Didn't want to waste money on things they never make it past the check point. I thought some people may have been let through with some items and they could advise me what was good or a definite no. Thanks for your input, but you know he wants to bring Pepper and amala ect. lol

You can get all those and more locally and quite cheap too. There's an international market in downtown LA where you can buy in bulk for those in the general area at even ridiculous savings.

I have Amala, Iyan (pounded yam), Garium Suplhate (let's see if my Naija people go figure this one out), Ewa, Panla, Egusi, etc all in my pantry.

Smooth Gari ( answer to your chemical description ) Also your local community will help you with finding things like bitter leaf and greens. Introduce him to habenero peppers Joseph loves these.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I have been in that glass room several times. It is humiliating, degrading and as the USC you feel like you have no rights. Complain you get interogated, body search and held for further processing. As a visa holding African man they can refuse his entry into the US if he brings a banded substance such as ivory or animal skins . Help him to understand the stress of a search isn't worth it.

When I passed through I tought the question about travel to the country and being at farms rather odd. I probably saw more cows/goats/chickens in Lagos than in the village.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
