So, our marriage finally gets registered in Canada and I finally get the copy of our marriage certificate. I'm glad I checked it closely, because they had my mother's maiden name recorded incorrectly! :bonk: We went back through all the material related to the application for the license and the material submitted afterwards and it's written correctly on each document, but somehow someone couldn't read when the important moment came. So now we have to fill out forms and send documents and wait even longer to have our marriage certificate. I'm just glad that I requested it as early as I did. Hopefully I'll have a correct copy by the time VCS finally gets around to our file and decides whether or not to issue an RFE for it. :blink:

I found out some pretty juicy secrets about my family when I ordered my birth certificate. haha. But it would suck if they got something wrong. Fortunately, birth certificates were written out when I was born. Not sure if they still are.

Passport Timeline (Submitted at USPS, Standard Processing, Standard Delivery, Locator number: 51) & SSA Update & Naturalization Certificate Receipt

 

03/23/2022: Application for passport submitted at USPS facility under standard processing.

04/04/2022: Status changed to “The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 04/04/2022. We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents...Your application locator number is 51*******.”

04/04/2022: Check for passport cashed.

05/03/2022: Status changed to "The U.S. Department of State approved your application for your passport book. We're now printing your passport book and preparing to give it to you. You should receive your passport book on or around 05/09/2022."

05/05/2022: Passport Received.

05/09/2022: SSA Citizenship Status Updated.

05/25/2022: Naturalization Certificate received in mail.

If you run into any problems due to time delays, you can always as your MPP (member of Provincial Parliament) to assist you. Their constituency offices are set up to assist constituents in issues like these :yes:

Thanks. I'm hoping it won't come to that, especially since Vermont is taking about 7 months these days, and we submitted at the very end of July (and missed the local-office expediting cut-off day by 15 days :crying: ). My husband spoke with someone at Service Ontario and they are sending forms to me to get it fixed. Hopefully we can get it all turned around in about a month.

I'm just curious about the process, is getting a certif in Canada a complex process?

When I did it in the US, I just filled out this piece of paper: wrote our names on it and mailed it in.

A week later, I had 5 copies to do with as I please.

I ordered ours online through the Service Ontario website and then they just mailed it to me. Relatively easy process, as long as they have your info right :whistle:
