Seeing all the interviews being scheduled got me hopeful, so I sat on hold with NVC for 40 minutes only to be told there is no update. Oh well, it should be soon enough.. I'm getting really anxious now!

Call DOS (202-663-1225), press 1 and then 0 to speak to an operator. In a few cases DOS had good news while NVC still said there is no interview date for some.

But I think DOS closed at 5pm ....

I tried to dial a minute ago and they were still open. Try it; maybe you will catch someone at the last minute.

hi,

please what *DOS* means?

It stands for the Department of State. They have information about your case status, and from experience (and from other people's posts), they answer phone calls much quicker than NVC.

Yay the other ES filer whose case closed late August got his date!! That means we will have a January date, barring any other unforeseen bullshit out of NVC or San Sal.

Thanks, A&S -- don't feel guilty. It's no one but NVC's fault.

I'm going to come out with it. I've hid it for a week or two now.

I requested an interview expedite based on severe mental health distress due to this prolonged wait and the 17 months I've already been separated from my husband due to his being in immigration jail and back home in El Salvador. It was sent to NVC on 10/25, along with an official letter from my therapist, stating the problem at hand and her prognosis if I'm not scheduled. NVC forwarded it to the embassy on 10/26.

I still have not heard anything.

This is so frustrating and maddening that no one happened to notice that 1000 cases were sitting, collecting dust. I'm racking my brain, trying to think of lessons the universe or God wants me to learn before we're given a date, or what I need to do to get one and it's killing me inside. I've been okay lately. At first I was depressed, like verge of suicide depressed (I wish I was kidding). And now I'm just angry. Like fuming mad, fire is coming out of my nostrils angry. This is unacceptable. I am an AMERICAN CITIZEN and I DESERVE to be treated better than this.

But, where do I go? What do I do? Who can I even turn to?? At the end of the day, NVC doesn't give a ######, nor does the embassy. They all get to go home to their families at night. But me? I go home to my 13 month old daughter. The one who has only met her dad twice in her short life. I go home, feed her, clean her, put her to sleep. I get up the next morning and work a full time job, five days a week, to support myself and her and my husband, in El Salvador. I have done this for 17 months (Well, with her only for 13 months). I'm hanging by a f***ing thread here. I don't have answers and I have no advocate. What can I do?

I have not forgotten about you Salvy. I pray everyday that yours will come soon.

Just be thankful it's almost over! I've been going through this for 17 months now and we still have the 601 to go (so add another 3-5 months worst case scenario AFTER the visa interview). I'd trade any one of you people places any day.

Whats the 601? is that something El Salvador specific?

Whats the 601? is that something El Salvador specific?

Nope. The 601 is an "extreme hardship waiver." Basically, the US is going to ban my husband from coming back to the US until he's been outside of it for 10 years because he was here "illegally." So we will submit the 601 waiver for extreme hardship and beg USCIS to let him come home here to the US. Thankfully USCIS has streamlined it -- people whose spouses have illegal presence can send their 601 to a lockbox in the US, and they're processing at 2-3 months now, with another 1-2 months for visa issuance after that. Before each embassy handled the 601 and ES was at 10-18 months processing time.
