Just got an RFE moments ago. I already realized what mistake I made when I submitted the packet, and now I am happy to get the RFE letter and send the corrections. Our NOA1 is Oct.17 at the VSC, and with luck in a couple of weeks, we should have the NOA2. We are so excited that things are finally happening.

Interviews are not automatically scheduled after NOA2. The fiance(e) must first make application for the K-1 visa. Only after everything in the visa application is complete will the Embassy or Consulate schedule a visa interview.

Prior to applying for the K-1 visa...your approved petition must first go through NVC. After this, the approved petition is sent to the Embassy/Consulate. NVC approval and transfer to the Embassy/Consulate can take 3 weeks...or so. If all goes quickly after NOA2...it is possible to have the interview in 8 weeks...but 4 weeks is highly unlikely. Bottom line is that visa interview scheduling is not in your direct control...and some Embassies/Consulates take longer than others.

I spoke to a lady which was on her way to get on a plane to leave the Dominican Republic today. She had just finished the K1-visa process and had the white envelope and visa in had for entry into the US. I asked her "from the moment your American fiancé received the NO2 to the moment you received the envelope with the interview date, what did you have to do?" She said "absolutely nothing". According to her, the envelope arrives with the interview date along with all the paperwork and the list of things you must gather to take to the interview. She said that she didn't have to do anything but wait for the envelope to arrive after her fiance told her he got the notice...the interview was automatically scheduled after the arrival of the NOA2.

You said that my fiancé would have to fill out the visa application and submit it IN ORDER to get an appointment date...I AM SO CONFUSED!!!

What you've done is filed a petition - it's not a visa application yet. The petition, if approved, allows the beneficiary to apply for a visa at their local consulate. That's exactly what everyone else on the K1 is doing too. You're currently waiting for Step 4 of the flow-chart - still in petition land, not yet visa application land: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

Someone recently said that after receiving the NOA2 my fiancé would have to fill out and take the application to the consulate BEFORE I am scheduled for an appointment. Someone else said that between the NOA2 and the arrival of the appointment date, there is nothing to do but wait...who is right???

My own personal experience (not hearsay) is that the Embassy will not schedule an interview until the beneficiary actually APPLIES for the visa. The visa application is made based on forms in the packet sent to you. Also...a medical exam is always required prior to the interview. Now...I did say that Embassies/Consulates may vary...but I have never heard of the extreme variance you described. So...I guess anything is possible...but I would not believe anyone until you talk to the Embassy itself. They usually respond to phone calls and emails (assuming you have the correct email address).

Ok...but you just stated that the forms inside the package are what make up the application. But...the lady I spoke to says that the package she received had all the forms AND the interview date on it. This is the process she went through: noa2 arrived to us fiancé. White envelope with interview date and forms along with list of required docs (med exam, police reports, etc.) inside. Filled out forms, did all required tasks including med exam. Went to interview. Got approved.

The package you are talking about...isn't it the same she was talking about? The one that she says came with the interview date?? Is there a package that come before that one? I thought there was only ONE package??

No they are talking about the same packet. I think it all depends on the embassy. some send you the forms to bring to the interview, some want all the forms back before the interview, some want part of it back before the interview and the other part isn't needed until the actual interview.

I think this discussion is starting to confuse people...why don't you just wait and go by the instructions they give you once you're approve? :-) I'm sure they will tell you exactly what to do when your case is ready! Good luck

For those that have not been paying attention to Igor's List for CSC K-1 filers... it appears CSC is "stepping up to the plate" for us October filers. A few days ago...there were only 4 CSC approved K-1 petitions. I openly complained about this in a post. Immediately after my open complaint...we now have 31 approved petitions!!! Do you think CSC heard me after reading my post? LOL :-) LOL.

It's my prayer that CSC remains "on a roll" and makes up for the injustice done to its October filers (as Nov and Dec were processed BEFORE October petitions).

Again....all of this is based on Igor's List...but this list does not seem to be too far from reality based on a study someone did here within VJ.

Let's go October CSC filers!!!
