Georgia or Florida Drivers License with B1/B2?

My husband has his license in the Philippines. We are now in the USA. Is his license valid here? Can he go to the DMV and get a license? Suggestions?

if he already has a ssn card and green card he can apply for driver's licence at dmv.

I believe he can go to the dmv along with his passport and get a temporary drivers licence, for the time he is legally supposed to be here. He would also have to take the permit test as well as the road test.

Since he's a tourist, I don't think it would be a problem to drive with his national DL.

Sometimes it's advised to have an international DL with you. When we were visiting California, we got an international DL in our country. Just to be on a safe side, if they wouldn't recognize out national DL.

Agreed. Tourists can use their national driver's license. Millions of tourists visit the US each year and drive legally on their national licenses. Very few of them have ever been to the DMV.

He needs to be able to provide a dated immigrant status document along with proof of residency and his SSN to get a DL in Georgia. As he is here on a B1/B2,he won't have the first two items. As a visitor he is allowed to drive on his foreign license.

If he is planning to change his status to a permanent resident or is here on an employment visa of some type he can apply for a Georgia license with an Employment Authorization Document or a Green Card. Licenses are issued for the same length of time as the immigrant status is legal as indicated in the dated document (hence why you need a dated document rather than just the receipt for an I-485, etc.) or 3 years, whichever is less.

He can use his PI license for 30 days - as a tourist. Bring with him his passport when he does.
