I got a strange email from the NVC on Monday which caused a bit of a panic. The email explains that the NVC are reviewing my application and documents and attached a checklist for missing documents. Here is an extract:

______1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1:_______________________

The National Visa Center is waiting for an Immigrant Visa Application to be submitted for this case.

My question is: How can the NVC be reviewing my application if they say it was missing? There wouldn't have been an application to review!

I since found out that this is an auto generated email and that I should ignore it. I also found out that it is known as false checklist, however, I lost one day sleep over it and wondered why they sent it in the first place.

When NVC finishes reviewing a package (typically accepting it), they tend to automatically generate this "false checklist" requesting the other package, even if your package is already in the building (they don't bother checking). Unfortunately, it happens a lot and, like you, people panic over it as they think their other package got lost or something. Just call up NVC and confirm. You'll probably get good news that your package (your AOS in this case) has been approved :)

Yes! We were worried about that too but the checklist specifically mentioned only 'Immigrant visa application part 1' which is what they were reviewing but was also missing at the same time!! It didn't make any sense. We did ring them on Tuesday and this is how we found out it was a false checklist which was auto generated and were told to disregard it. It was just annoying to receive it and have us worry for nothing.

It probably makes sense for NVC to do that, my Wife's AoS arrived there about a week before my Visa Application but since it took NVC 2 weeks to look at it, my Visa Application has been there a week and may not have been looked at. However, the email from NVC specifically mentioned reviewing my Visa Application and my documents and then told me the Visa Application was missing!

When we rang them up the next day, they said they did have the application and told us to disregard the checklist, panic over.
