Good morning everyone. Just a quick question. Has anyone here heard of a Null Record letter? And if you have, do you know where I might be able to get an example of it? I've googled the $hit outta as many variations of that phrase as I can and I haven't found anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

"Get a null record letter from the county, which is a signed letter on the county clerk's letterhead, stating that you requested the records and they are unavailable. Get two originals of this letter...."

It is basically a letter on official letterhead from the relevant organization stating that the requested document does not exist or no longer exists.

This is often what you need if you have some sort of minor infraction or run in with the law and the case is so long ago that the records have been thrown out or removed.

Another instance may be when there has been a home birth and there is no official birth certificate. The registry then states that there is no official birth certificate on record.

First of all, thank you so much for y'all's help. The reason I asked is b/c later next year, my hubby & I are scheduled to be PCS'd to Germany & I hope to take advantage of that expedited path to citizenship b/c he is active duty military.

Approx. 8 yrs ago I had a CIMT, was given community service as part of my probation sentence. I completed it successfully. During our spousal visa journey, I didn't need a waiver.

Ok so when preparing/reading the instructions for citizenship, it says I need:

If you have ever been convicted or placed in an alternative sentencing program or rehabilitative program (such as a drug treatment or community service program), send:

An original or court-certified copy of the sentencing record for each incident; and Evidence that you completed your sentence:

a. An original or certified copy of your probation or parole record; or

b. Evidence that you completed an alternative sentencing program or rehabilitative program

I went to my old probation officer, she informed me there isn't anything she can give me & said if I hadn't finished my probation, I would have been arrested & that would show up in my criminal check. Soo not much help there. I went to the court house to reqest my probation record, all they gave me was a certified copy of my court docs (which i already have) showing what i was originally charged with. I asked during Laurel Scott's weekly chat & she's the one that mentioned the null record letter.

Soo there's my dilemma.
