Hey Guys,

Just thinking ahead on when I actually move over (fingers crossed I hear from Sydney soon).

My mobile phone plan has just finished and my iPhone 4 is still in really good nick. Is it worth me bringing it over to the States and use it over there once I move? Or will it be better to just get a new phone on a plan?

I'm not sure how the CDMA/GSM stuff works.

Service providers like AT&T still use SIM's. You can also get a pre-paid SIM. You would need to get some sort of plan with data though.

What I would suggest is looking at the websites for the major companies and deciding based on that. I personally had an iPhone as well but it was too hard for me to get a plan here using the "old" phone, rather than just get a new phone with a plan. That and we're with Verizon who doesn't use SIM's anymore (except in certain global phones, and even then it's just a backup SIM from Vodafone for when I'm in another country but I use Verizon CDMA while I'm in the US).

The major companies are:

- Verizon;

- AT&T;

- Sprint;

- US Cellular; and

- T-mobile.

There are a couple of other ones but these are the main "big ones". Also when looking on their sites they're called "wireless" plans. You'll want to look at how many minutes you will get (as opposed to a $$ amount that you get as value), text (most are unlimited) and of course data. I also have an international calling plan on my phone so I can call overseas (my husband doesn't so he can't call overseas). However I only use that for emergencies as most of my family/friends have smart phones and the app called "Viber" so we can text and call for free (only uses data or WiFi if available).

Find out what carrier your fiance uses and ask him what his plan is so you can see whether it would be cheaper to get a family plan, or whether it would be cheaper to go with another company to his, or whether it would be cheaper to get your own plan.

Good luck!
