CR-1 Visa: Living in the same country but not the same residence

So I live with my USC fiance in Japan - we live in the same area (about an hour from each other), but we don't live together. We tried to apply for transfers last year, and to move into a town between our two towns, but our employers forbade it :< The only rented housing available in our towns is owned by the government, so our employers have veto over where we live.

We already have our K1 visa paperwork ready to go, but now I am having second thoughts and wondering if it would be better to apply for a CR-1 visa?

I originally thought it would be a bad idea - we don't have a joint bank account (no such thing in Japan), and I am pretty sure you can't have joint names on any paperwork other than your residency card/certificate.

I basically live with him on weekends/when I am not working. We do pay for a lot of things together, but since Japan is a cash based society we don't have any records of transfers or things like that.

When I spoke to my employer they said they could have my residence's card and certificate changed to his address. This is pretty normal in Japan where families and couples live apart during the week, but I wondered if US authorities might see this as kind of fraudulent?

Also, if we were to get married now we would just do the paperwork and have our ceremony later. We would have to send the CR-1 paperwork off really soon after being married, and that also makes me worry.

In short, I think we have a solid K1 visa case, but the CR-1 visa seems to be less hassle in the long run in terms of AOS.
