Companies, jobs streaming out of California

Sept. 29, 2012

By John Seiler

The progressive California utopia foisted on us by ex-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and current Gov. Jerry Brown is killing jobs by the thousand. The latest:

“In an abrupt announcement that caught state and local business officials off guard, cable giant Comcast announced Tuesday that it’s closing all of its California call centers, including one in Natomas that employs about 300 workers….

“Earlier in the day, citing the state’s ‘high cost of doing business,’ a regional Comcast official said the company’s Natomas, Livermore and Morgan Hill call centers will be shuttered on Nov. 30. Overall, about 1,000 jobs will be relocated to existing centers in Portland, Seattle and Denver.

“But hours later, after state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, and the Governor’s Office interceded, Comcast backtracked, saying its initial reasons were ‘incorrect.’”

Comcast is a giant conglomerate that still employs thousands in California. So it obviously was pressured by Brown and Steinberg, the state’s top two political thugs. You thought free speech existed? Not when a massive tax increase that will kill even more jobs, Proposition 30, is at stake.

Then there’s this about a Campbell’s soup plant:

“The Sacramento plant, which makes soups, sauces and beverages, will close in phases before shuttering for good in July, the company said. As Campbell’s oldest American facility — it was built in 1947 — the factory has the highest production costs in the company’s network.

“About 700 full-time employees will lose their jobs, according to Campbell. Production will be redistributed to plants in Maxton, N.C.; Napoleon, Ohio; and Paris, Texas.”

I heard Joseph Vranich, the relocation specialist, on the John & Ken show yesterday evening. (Audio here.) He said the Campbell’s plant was ideally located in Sacramento because that’s near where the food is grown. But AB 32, Arnold’s beloved Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, kicks in big time next year with its absurd Cap and Trade program. Processing food creates a big “carbon footprint,” so it’s best to skedaddle to a state that treats businesses better.

Vranich said the cost of doing business in California is at least 20 percent higher than anywhere else in America.

This is the continuation of a long-term exodus. Soon the only jobs left in California will be for 180-IQ computer geeks in Silicon Valley, Hollywood producers, government workers, drug dealers and moving companies.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Cap and Trade will fix it! Why didn't they do this sooner? Fools. I am thinking Vermont is far enough away that most of those people will be filtered out before they get this far.

You and I are lucky enough to not have to feel the effects of the infestation. But when the rats leave the sinking ship like they usually do every ten years or so, it's Washington and Oregon that get hit the hardest with the migrating horde. The worst part of it is, those that fleed the sinking ship push for the same screwed up laws and policies that got them there in the first place.

Stay away! That way you won't get the California's on you. Tell your friends to stay away too.

Strong Cold Front Spreads Cool Temperatures East of the Rockies

As a strong cold front moves toward the east coast, it leaves much cooler air in its wake. Freeze Warnings are in effect as far south as the Texas panhandle and highs today are forecast in the 40s and 50s for much of the central part of the nation. Winter weather is in the forecast as well, with heavy snow possible in Eastern Wyoming and Western Nebraska.

I don't understand why so many people leave that state along with it's great weather. What gives?

They're scared. Run away! The state is full of well groomed men and mannish women. And the hippies! OMG! The hippies are everywhere, beating on drums, fouling the air with their unbathed essence, while foreign looking street vendors are selling barbecued family pets. If you love your cat or dog, keep them far away from California!

It's called white flight. As the urban areas expand, more affluent people look for more of the ever-disappearing suburbia, pushing out the interface between rural living and bedroom communities. If you look to the newly expanded areas, with the better schools and less expensive real estate, that is also where you find new corporate headquarters being built, as long as the communities have easy access to the interstate. Not that hard to understand at all. And of course, all those displaced farm workers become a ready workforce for the more labor intensive and unskilled jobs.

The excuses are pathetic...but funny. Incidentally, Vermont (and they do not get any blue-er than that) has had a population increase. Of course we have no crime because anyone can carry a gun, no pollution to speak of, no huge debt to pay, no Cap and Trade, OMG! Gay marriage is legal, marijuana is almost legal,

California is running people off with a blow torch and you call it "white flight" Like they have to leave THE STATE!???

Cold weather? Proves there is no global warming and is great for tourism in the winter! Y'all come ski!

What gives is the great Liberal Utopia has just about regulated itself out of Business. Of course several of the states on thier border are booming. Especially logostic companies. It is so hard to do business in Cali they go right across the border.

I just hope all those big government liberals stay out there and waller in the mess they have created. The good news is Cali will send less idiots to congress and get fewer electoral votes. The bad news is they may move here.

Californians seem to love their over taxed going broke liberal utopia. Moonbeam brown signed just over 2,700 laws this year including the manadory homosexual history classes for California public schools and another clean air bill and Californians get a warm fuzzy feeling down below every time they read about it. They asked for it, love it, they want it, and they deserve it. California has the worst credit rating of all 50 US states, it's $16+ billion dollars in the hole and growing. Tack on another $100+ billion with this new high speed rail Californians voted for. Of course that one doesn't affect them as much as it will the next 5+ generations of Californians. The good one is when Californians tout how that state pays the Feds more than it receives. Hey, get better reps then in DC. It's not like California doesn't have any clout in DC RE Pelosi. That state loves illegals....can't ever do enough for them, while the tax payers and businesses flee that state like rats abandoning a sinking ship. California invest in big government and that's about it. That state deserves everything it gets and then some. I feel zero pity for what's happening to that state and I rejoice in the fact that Californians are finally starting to feel the effects of wallowing in the mire of their so called liberal utopia.

Yes, it is terrible. The schools suck. The highways are overcrowded. Everybody should just leave and move to Alaska. Alaska will pay you $1000 a year to live there, unlike California, where they actually expect you to pay taxes.

All those tax payers leaving California are being replaces by illegals which should make you happy seeing how your a proponent of open borders for the US.

Add they will aid Cap and Trade in January. That should help.
