Alaska seeks to block fuel standard enforcement

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The state of Alaska is asking a federal judge to block enforcement of rules intended to limit pollution from large ships.

The request for a preliminary injunction was filed Friday.

Alaska is suing the federal government over the new fuel standard, arguing it will result in higher freight rates and pricier cruises that will hurt the state's economy.

The rules took effect Aug. 1 and require cargo carriers and cruise ships to use a low-sulfur fuel within 200 miles of a significant portion of U.S. and Canadian shores.

The federal government hasn't filed its response yet.

Meanwhile, the Center for Biological Diversity, Environmental Defense Fund, Friends of the Earth and Natural Resources Defense Council have asked to intervene, in support of the federal government.

Many of the Alaskan people cherished a governor who shoots free roaming animals from a helicopter, so it's fair to say that they have more in common with Russians than with Americans. In fact, we should have never purchased Alaska from them. This way the Canadians now would have to deal with this and Mc Cain would not have a fool out of himself back in 2004.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I thought I'd post on this thread to help up the IQ level on here. Bad Alaska...bad bad bad! Shooting wild animals for food, drinking booze, smoking is allowed in bars and resteraunts, growing and smoking weed is legal, no homosexual marriage, no CCW required to pack a concealed firearm, open carry of a firearm is allowed, developing it's resources, no state tax, it's $50 billion dollars to the good, most people up here drink their coffee black, and Alaska gives it's citizens an annual check every year from state oil proceeds just for living here.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
